Hi guys. The episode i did with the Doctor Who Podcast lads is out. I chat aling with Trev and James about the Vampires of Venice episode. If you fancy a listen head to http://www.thedoctorwhopodcast.com/ and hive ot a listen, i'm on episode 16.

Good show, I like the concept of a separated review and fan reaction show.
Lots of different angles to several aspects of the show, I really enjoyed that.

About the topics that came up, those scenes with sunlight and the vampires were very inconsistent and the queen taking off her clothes at the end irritated me, too. But in the case of Who I'm very forgiving of that stuff, the character of the show allows for a lot of leeway.

The reason the fish queen collected and altered human women was that the females of their species didn't survive the journey to earth, that was central to the story, so I'm a bit surprised some viewers assume they will be back. They'll just die, either of starvation or of old age, as they can't reproduce without females.

I do have mixed feelings about the cake scene, mainly because it was over the top.

Smith may be a bit bland compared to his two predecessors, but he's far more alien than they are, and that's a good thing.
If you remember, here is this scene in "Darmok" (TNG) where Troi holds a cup of tea and says a foreign word and asks Picard what she said. Cup? Warm? Good? Ugly? ... ? The point is, we assume aliens are like us, but they are not.
So we assume jumping out of a cake and telling the soon to be husband you kissed his future bride is rude, but he's an alien, sometimes he understands humans, sometimes not. This was his on-the-fly solution to another problem he really wanted to solve: a companion falling in love with him (and leaving her old live and relationships behind).
We have seen whole episodes of the Doctor avoiding actively traveling with a companion. There were several reasons for that, but I think the main issue was he couldn't protect a companion, even if she loved him and he loved her?
I do have the impression the moment Amy threw herself at him he considered it a big problem that had to be solved immediately, so he threw himself in another situation, Rory's party, without knowing how to get out of it. That's true Who.

I think that was all for my part and I hope Meds will be invited for further shows! :)

Meds

Ah thanks mate. Yeah I hope I get invited back as well :D

Watched the latest episode last night with the two different dream lives.  Liked this one quite a bit.  Very interesting and great character moments.  One thing that is kind of striking me though over time watching Doctor Who is how many aliens seem to take over bodies of humans.  I mean, are we that much fun to live inside?  This just seems to happen quite a bit.  Just an observation.  Anyway, loved how this latest episode ended.  Really interesting and didn't see it coming.

I agree with the aliens-on-earth thing although it seems to be pretty much a feature of this latest run of the series more than it ever was in the old days. I guess it's now become cheaper to go and film in a small village somewhere rather than meet the full CGI requirements of a green screen spaceship/alien planet set.

I liked this episode well enough although I didn't like the Dream Lord identity payoff at the end. It felt a little weak to me, even if it was plausible. I hope something more will be made of it in a future episode sometime.

My one complaint lies with the continued materialisation noises. Having them described as unnecessary in an earlier episode grates on me more and more as they continue to feature in the show.

I know it's unnusual here but I don't have a podcast of my own.

Dangelus

I think it was just a joke. Otherwise every Time Lord that ever appeared on the show also left the brake on! :)

X

Actually, there are more and more cases where the doctor hasn't used the breaks. in the space UK episode, they went from space to the inside without a noise. Sure it was  before the river episode, but it was there.

Also, just because you learned how to do something the right way, doesn't mean that you will. This new tardis isn't like the old one. The old on e was designed for - was it 8? people to operate it. This tardis has stabilizers and parking breaks and seems to require less people to move the ship correctly.

Feathers

Oh, I don't think the parameters of the TARDIS design have changed in that way at all. This is still the same old 6/8 person ship with the same equipment fit as it always had.

I hated the 'desktop theme' analogy they threw in a few years ago but it does fit my understanding of the way the thing works.

I know it's unnusual here but I don't have a podcast of my own.

Dangelus

Come to think of it, the 1st Doctor often landed the TARDIS silently...

Meds

The first episodes had silent landings, then you would only hear it outside, even the fifth doctor had silent landing with just a thud. Now I know my Tardis facts but will refrain from boring everyone but one geeky point is the hum you hear in the background in this series is the same hum featured in the fifth/sixth doctors tardis :)

Feathers

Yes!

Thanks, you've put your finger on something that jarred with me but I couldn't identify!

It was the fact that I'm used to the noise as an external feature of the materialisation sequence, not an internal one.

I know it's unnusual here but I don't have a podcast of my own.

Feathers

Has my browser thrown a wobbly or has Meds not commented on the latest episode yet???

I thought it was interesting, but perhaps not as fast paced as the rest of this series has been. The fact that it ended to lead into a second part may explain that, I hope they padded this half rather than the whole thing!

An interesting premise but I don't think it really provided enough of an explanation or enough jeopardy for my taste.

I know it's unnusual here but I don't have a podcast of my own.

Wow....this week was totally awesome! The finale was unexpected and surprising with regards to
both Rory and the shrapnel reveal.....wow!!
then the trailer for next week looked equally as fun.....Matt Smith is trully the Doctor!!

Rico

I liked the latest episode too and continue to enjoy the new cast.  Although I thought the story idea for this episode was a bit old school/old sci-fi.  But still fun to watch.

Darkmolerman

Really great episode, really really great episode.
How is it that Rory died? WOOOW. That ring is going to come into play for sure!!!
The lizard people are great.

I wasn't happy with the ending of the latest episode. It just annoyed me and was to close to other things in other seasons.
