You know how the Doctor couldn't go back to Rory stuck in 1938. Could he have gone back to December 31st 1937 (or maybe earlier) and then waited around a bit?

Also, with regards to how distraught the Doctor became at losing them both from his life. What's stopping him from visiting Amy and Rory a year or two after they landed in the past. River did say he doesn't like to see people age, so ten years maybe a bit too much. But only a year or two should be okay...
Apologies now. That's two responses I've posted to TV shows that I loved. And both are ever so slightly negative sounding....I guess it's a glass half empty day today...
The limitation seemed more to do with the 'fixed point' they were creating, presumably through the grave stone, rather than the distortion a about 1938 New York.

Lets face it, Amy could simply have said "we'll get to Chicago in 1939, see you there" but didn't. I don't fully understand why he couldn't have nipped back to another time, picked them up and the took them back to ensure they died in the correct time frame, however.
It is a kids show, at heart, so not everything will be explained to satisfy adult curiosity.

I know it's unnusual here but I don't have a podcast of my own.

Now that I have had time to digest this show a bit more here are some thoughts,...
It looked to me from the pace and the way this episode was going was that it wasn't going to end on a real happy note.  I have to say I would have preferred that Amy & Rory just decided to stop going off with the Doctor, settled down and had some kids, etc.  They seem to make a point of taking the possibility away from the Doctor revisiting companions and I think that's a bit of a cheat.  Is it so hard for him to just stay away?  By now he should know it's kind of dangerous to travel with him.  So now the Ponds are trapped in the past and he can't reach them at all?  I just don't see why he can't pick another time somehow a few years later and pop in on them?  It was kind of heart breaking again to see this happen to him.  That last scene with Amy was very hard.  While I can see why the writers do shows like this, I'm starting to tire of this approach to the end of companions.
Well, from what I gathered...
Not only is 1938 a no-go for the Tardis, but since Amy and Rory's deaths are noted on the stone and everyone's seen it, saving them would result in yet another paradox that could be pretty destructive. So...I don't know why he couldn't pop in on them unless it would alter something...this is about as sad as Donna's end.
As far as I can see its
this. the Doctor can't risk changing time thus making a new paradox big enough to destroy the whole of NY. The angel would find them and could change the date of their death. Saying that what happened to the rogue angel? I loved the fall from the roof top, that had me on the edge of my seat. I honestly wish they went back and told Brian though, that would have been nice.
I loved it and it was neat and tidy for me.
He can't just visit the Ponds because he would want to take them with him. He can't wait a few years because it kills him to see his companions growing old and showing the damage of time travel with him. Also, when the doctor visits, trouble follows and just a visit might pose a danger. If everything is to be taken for it's word, Amy and Rory spent like 13 years + traveling with the doctor. We might not have seen them all, but it made sense and Amy's choice made sense. How many times did Rory rely on blind faith to save or be with her. It's fitting that her choice was to finally choose her husband over her Doctor.
Series 7 part 2 is well under way in Cardiff. The Doctor looks like he has a new outfit, bow ties still but his jacket is pretty cool.

Some on set Spoilers (mild but it is in spoiler tag)
So new companions CLARA not Oswin as i mentioned a few pages back seems to almost exist in various times. According to dialogue heard (and of course without seeing the full scenes these could be just sheer speculation) she does not recognize the Tardis which is weird considering she has already seen it in the Christmas special. Latest filming is set in modern day UK.
I wish we had seen that P.S. filmed and put in the series.  I think it was awesome and would have been an amazing ending.

Almost finished...

Fan made titles, he rendered the CG and remixed the theme himself...I really like it!
