You know what? It's sufficiently photoshopped (and younger) that I can't tell. Personally, I thought it looked like a young Nicholas Cage!

I'll be surprised (in a pleasant way) if we really get a known name here. I'll be doubly, pleasantly surprised if we get someone over 30!

(For those who remember, Capaldi played Caecilius in the 'Fires of Pompeii' in 2008.)

He isn't known really to me or over here.  It will be interesting to see an older doctor.

I'm not really surprised, he's very much a British TV actor and I don't think he's 'gone international' in the same way as Hugh Laurie and some others. The most recent thing I've come across him in is a British political satirical show, not something that would export well.

To a degree, if this is true I'd be quite pleased by it. As our one major 'international' SciFi show, I feel pretty protective towards it and the way it's made. Simply pulling in an international name just because they could would feel like a sell-out rather than a bonus to me.

Roll on Sunday when we can find out for real!

I have been catching up on the 'newer' shows - being about half way through the Eccleston season (I was on board back in the Pertwee-Baker years when I was a kid).  I must admit that although I like him in all his other work, I don't care for him as the Doctor.

Also in the running is Daniel Rigby. He's a great young actor who did a wonderful job playing a young Eric Morcambe in Eric & Ernie.
