No Way!...........WE'VE LANDED ON THE MOON!!

Feathers

I'm still waiting for 4.5 to start over here! (but yes, I'm glad there's more to come after that)

I know it's unnusual here but I don't have a podcast of my own.

QuadShot

Nope, you're not the only one. We've been chatting about this on another thread! :)

Rico

Eureka is currently in the second half of season 4.  I'll merge this with our other thread on the show.

Joostin

By new season I of course meant the 2nd half of season 4...Ahem

Great return episode and it had some really fun stuff in it.  Felicia next week and for the remainder of the season I think is an added bonus.  But one little thing bugged me about this episode at the end,....
I'm kind of really tired of SF shows having to do the whole, prove you're worth it to the government or some other agency schtick.  It's a very old, cliche plot device that's been used way too much.  Maybe there will be more to it, but for now it looks like it the same old thing that's been done many times before.
Interesting point, but ...
Isn't that the very purpose of Eureka? Gov and Science going hand and hand, but only if it's profitable for the gov. This isn't something new to Eureka because they often times had to deal with budget concerns. As far as I know, they have to do a new budget each year and while not having to see the process every year is good, seeing it some of the time is nice. The last time they had to go all commercial to make the ends meet and pay the bills to keep the city afloat. I'm interested to see how they do it this time, but I'm also not surprised since they are a gov entity.
But,
I don't really mind that the "government v. science" aspect of Eureka, in fact, I somewhat enjoy it.  It has a different vibe than the same themes presented in other shows.  And it's pretty timely, too, especially considering Zane and Fargo were in low earth orbit last week, and now their funding is being questioned?  Sounds very "end of the shuttle program" to me.  ;)[/spoler]

I hope this is not true...

SyFy's 'Eureka' Poised To End Its Run With Final 6-Episode Order

By NELLIE ANDREEVA | Thursday August 4, 2011 @ 12:56pm

EXCLUSIVE: Syfy's Eureka will be coming to an end. I've learned that the cable network is close to ordering six more episodes, which will mark the end of the sci-fi series starring Collin Ferguson and Salli Richardson-Whitfield. Syfy is currently airing Season 4.5 of Eureka, while the show is filming the 13 episodes from Season 5. I hear filming is expected to wrap as planned at the end of the month, with the cast and crew coming back in October to shoot the final six episodes. Created by Andrew Cosby and Jaime Paglia and produced by Universal Cable Prods, Eureka is set in the fictional town of Eureka, Ore., inhabited almost entirely by geniuses and scientists. The current Season 4.5 premiered last month with 2 million total viewers, 893,000 of them in the adults 18-49 category. As we reported earlier this week, Syfy also is poised to renew Warehouse 13.

May not be the end of Eureka after all.

Eureka's 6-episode 6th season may (or may not) be its last

The current season of Eureka is thrilling us, what with Felicia Day, Wil Wheaton and Stan Lee popping up to make the lives of the regular inhabitants of that small town of super geniuses even more intriguing, but what about next season?

Actually—what about the one AFTER that?

Syfy has reportedly ordered only six episodes for Eureka's 6th season, as opposed to the 13 episodes currently filming for season 5. Deadline is reporting that this may mark the end of Eureka, but Mark Stern, Syfy's president of original content, reports that this is not necessarily so:

"Bruce Miller and Jaime Paglia [Eureka's co-creators] have brought a creative vitality to 'Eureka' that has kept it fresh and inventive. ... Although we do not have a commitment beyond six episodes for the sixth season, we are hopeful that this will not be the end of the franchise."

The series, now in its fourth season, airs Monday nights at 8/7C.

Are you enjoying the current season of Eureka? And are you hoping for more?

Rico

So they are currently airing season 4.5.  They are filming season 5 (13 episodes).  And this article is talking about season 6?!?  We are like a year or more away from that - right?

Dangelus

This is a weird article. How can you predict so far ahead? Just because they've only ordered 6 episodes doesn't mean it's cancelation time. Perhaps they are looking to give it a long break again, which I'm not a fan of but it beats being cancelled!

Rico

SyFy does occasionally plan far in advance like this but I still think the article and story is a bit weird at this stage.

Feathers

Haven't they also extended such orders in the past? From 6 to 12 or similar?

I know it's unnusual here but I don't have a podcast of my own.

Geekyfanboy

Wow.. it's official.. Eureka has been cancelled.. the fifth season will be it's last.. the even cancelled the final six episodes that they said they ordered for Season six

'Eureka' canceled, sixth season plans dropped -- EXCLUSIVE

Whoa! Big shock on Eureka.

Remember how Syfy ordered six episodes for a potential final season last week? Well, tonight the network decided that not only is the series firmly going to end, but those final six episodes are not going to happen after all.

The 13-episode fifth season that was ordered last year, which includes a holiday special, is going to be the final season of Eureka.

Here's a statement from Syfy:

"After painstaking consideration, we have had to make the difficult business decision to not order a season six of Eureka. But Eureka is not over yet. There is a new holiday episode this December and 12 stellar episodes set to debut next year, marking its fifth season and six memorable years on Syfy. The 2012 episodes are some of the best we've seen, and will bring this great series to a satisfying end. We are very grateful to Bruce Miller and Jaime Paglia, their team of incredible writers, and an amazing cast and crew who have consistently delivered a series we continue to be very proud of. We thank the fans for their support of this show and know they will enjoy its final season in 2012."

Last week a Syfy executive and said he was "hopeful" the drama series about a town of geniuses would continue beyond an additional six episodes, but I guess the deal didn't come together as parties expected. At least Eureka ran for a healthy five seasons and this move still gives producers time to wrap up the show in a creatively satisfying way. (I know, it's like the TV series equivalent of saying, "At least he didn't suffer," but it's still true!)

Meh....ok.....not entirely sure why its suddenly bad having a good running show on TV these days....at least it gets 5 seasons....
