Anyone trying this streaming music service out yet?  It's now available in the US.  I could use an invite, if anyone is in on this yet.

I'd like to try this service too.

klout.com was giving out invites, you just need to register on the site. I have an invite from them but I don';t think I can send it and of course, still no spotify in Canada :(

?????  I'm not sure that's the case over here.  I think it works on your PC, Android, etc. here.

Yeah over here they have restricted all mobile devices to subscriptions only I think. I'm sure it will be open over there for a good while to hook you in then i am sure they'll do the same stateside.

You have to pay to use it on your iPhone, which has turned me off from the service.  iTunes lets me play my music on all my devices without any trouble, (though admittedly, only because that's the point ;))  I take pretty strong issues with companies that separate out mobile devices as a "feature" of their premium service.  Its my service and I should be allowed to use it anyway I feel like.

For an example, if I want to watch Netflix on my 9.7" (Or 3.5") over my 22" desktop screens, that is my choice, not yours.  Thankfully, Netflix doesn't mind.  Its why I don't have Hulu+ atm...that and the ads.

What I'm getting at is when Spotify launched mobile apps you could stream your Artist with a free account just like on the web. They then updated the apps to the subscription service only.

It's pretty good, much like your Pandora radio service, so I'm not sure what they are offering the US Market that is unique.

Pandora is more like a radio service, which means that you can choose a genre to play but Pandora decides the tracks for you.  If I understand Spotify correctly, its like having iTunes except in the cloud and you decide what tracks to play.

At least, that's how I understand it.

Well yes but not in the free version which afaik is a lot more like the radio service, you pick an artist and it will play tracks by that artist and similar artists.

What will the introduction of the so-called iCloud do th this?

I know it's unnusual here but I don't have a podcast of my own.

Spotify is much closer to the satellite radio model and not Pandora.  This is not intended really to be a free service.  You pay a monthly fee and get access to a huge library of streaming music.  Similar also to Netflix streaming.  So instead of "buying" music, you just sort of rent the ability to listen to it.

Lol you're totally right, I'm confusing this with Last.fm d'oh!!

(who did stop mobile devices getting the free service)

Sorry.

Ktrek

I'd be particularly interested in knowing how extensive their classical music library is.

Here is the page to download Spotify! So far I have found it to be pretty awesome. Probably upgrade to the pay service on this.
