DS9 and beyond

Just finished viewing the last DS9 episode on DVD after watching the whole series for the first time over the last year or so. I initially passed on DS9 in its original run because the characters and stories seemed a little bland. Even watching the first season now felt a little bland but I stuck with it because I'd heard so many good things about it and it was fun to be watching "new" Trek.

I can't believe how much my opinion changed by the end. I really grew to like the huge cast of both main and supporting characters and the epic nature of the stories they told. I loved the 10 episode arc that ended the series that was almost "Star Wars" in scope. I think it is a very worthy part of the "Trek" universe and I'm sad it is over for me.

I would love to see a DS9 reunion movie. I'm sure it will never happen at this piont, but even a TV movie would be great. My question is are there any DS9 novels that deal with a reunion of all the main characters? I'd really be interested in something that brings Sisco and Odo back. Is there anything like that out there?

I agree with you I would love to see a DS9 movie. I have always said its all to do with beards. TNG got better when Ryker grew a face sweater and look what happened once Sisko grew a chin glove. Yup it got better. ;)

That must be why Voyager and Enterprise aren't considered as good, no beards!

There is a whole series of books that take place after the last episode of DS9 and was called the DS( relaunch by Pocket Books. It really was the start of a renaissance in Star Trek literature. Although many authors worked on the series there is continuity because all the authors worked together to try and bring the best DS9 stories. I have found them very enjoyable and extremely well written for the most part. Here is a list at Memory Beta of all the relevant titles in the order to be read.

Thanks, Kevin. That's just what I was looking for. I'll have to check some of those out.

Its hard to pick a favorite. I loved the arc episodes in Seasons 6 and 7. Season 7 is freshest in my mind. I thought "Badda-Bing Badda-Bang" was one of the most fun. I had a huge smile on my face the whole time...even though there wasn't a lot of meat to it.

I keep thinking what a great job they did with the supporting characters. I grew to love them just as much if not more than some regulars in other Trek shows (Nog, Garak, Vic, Damar (I'm amazed they were able to get me to love Damar as a character by the end), etc).

Since the 7th season is fresh in your mind I would recommend you start with Avatar parts 1 and 2 and go from there. A Stitch In Time can be read and enjoyed at any time and the comic N-Vector is not necessary either. I would stay just with the books.

Glad you finally got around to falling in love with DS9.. I still say that DS9 was some of the best written Trek ever... especially towards the end.

I am actually catching up on DS9 as well - starting on the first season, and working my way forward. This is one I didn't catch very much of when it aired.

By far one of the best Enterprise episodes was the alternate universe 'In A Mirror Darkly'. Could it be because they featured a couple beards too?
The Grizzled Man in the opening scene who boards the Vulcan ship pt.1 and 'crewman' Soval goatee in pt.2

i can't post a pic because of the file type, but it's that riker saying
