Friday night marked a new milestone in my own geeky life!  I got to play a cameo role in the sixth scene of A Klingon Christmas Carol -- a creative adaptation of the original Charles Dickens classic tale to the Klingon culture and language.  This show is performed entirely in the Klingon Language (tlhIngan Hol) and is a must-see for anyone who has the opportunity to do so!

I was asked to portray a character in one scene, where I get to actually instigate a Klingon bar fight.  How cool is that!!!!

It was by far one of the most fun and exciting things I have done genre-wise, and the cast was just fabulous to work with.  Just getting my makeup and costume done, complete with forehead ridges and hair, was just phenomenal!

I wish all of you could have come to see the show!

Omg that is totally awesome. Who is this group of people? How did you become involved?

Congratulations Rick Peete!  You look awesome as a Klingon!

That's so awesome Rick.  I loved seeing that production last year with you and wished I could have seen you in the show.  You make a very authentic and cool looking Klingon.  Qa'Pla!

Are you sure you weren't the Klingon urging the others to give up 'gagh' for more healthy alternatives?  :)  Maybe that is what started the bar fight...

The makeup suits you, you're a very convincing Klingon.

Did you get to keep the head ridges?

I know it's unnusual here but I don't have a podcast of my own.

No, the costume belongs to the theater company.  Oh well....

But it does make me want to put together a Klingon warrior costume and get a custom head ridges/hair piece.  I will have to ask the director how I might get a hold of something like that!

The cast are actors who auditioned for a role in the production.  The director was from the original theater company in Minnesota, where they have been perfomring this show for the past 10 years.

To create the original script translation, they worked with the creator of the Klingon Language, Marc Okrand, who had to develop new volcabulary for the play because of many words that had not been needed for the Trek series and movies.  Cast members (including myself) had two days of intensive language instruction so that we could correctly read and pronounce Klingon as the script itself was written in Klingon as well as English.

I was asked to be a guest star because of the review I wrote for the play last Christmas.  And I also produced an audio interview with the director of the play which was included in a podvast of Treks In ScFi.  When the director asked me if I would be interested, I jumped at the change.  In Capt. Sulu's words, "Are you kidding?"

The cast have told me that they really enjoyed working with me and that I was their best guest star due to the level of interest I brought to the opportunity, my love for Trek, and my willingness to be fully 'present' in the production.  I wish I could do it more than once.

What does your family think of the full makeup effect?

I know it's unnusual here but I don't have a podcast of my own.

Looks like it was a lot of fun.

Hey Rick they might need a few Klingons for the new movie! ;)

RickPeete

Sign me up!! I wouild play a Klingon in the movie in a heartbeat!  And they wouldn't have to teach me the language either!  :)

My son thought I looked way cool as a Klingon.  My wife as always is tolerant of my Trekkie-ness so she was supportive, and actually enjoyed the play.  So it was all good.

So perhaps if I spend money on a full Klingon costume, complete with ridges and hair and stuff, she won't put up too much of a fuss.  LOL
