This has been in my closet for YEARS and I'm finally gonna start it. The box says it has 95 parts...hope they're all in there!

Nice! I have posted some of my model builds here over the years, both STAR WARS and STAR TREK. You can do a search here in the Collectibles Forum to check them out. I have made that kit a few times in my years. It's a good kit, has some accuracy and fit issues, but a pretty easy build. Make sure you prime the whole thing first and then build some of the sub assemblies and paint, if that's the plan, before really fitting it together.

Hey, I just noticed the Viper and Enterprise models in the background, post some pics of your work!

Thanks, I'll take your advice. Here's a couple models, most of them are in boxes in the attic at the moment, no room! The TOS Enterprise came out crappy, but it's the only model I have of that.

Nice looking Models, good luck on the X-Wing

Ohhhh! I remember that one!  I built mine back in the 80's. Probably didn't make the cut in the last move, though.

IIRC, you can build it in two different "poses": flying and landing.  I built mine in flying mode, and attached the landing gear to an older broken Lamborghini model.  Repurposed the broken wheels and axle, and added a rotating gun turret (to the Lamborghini) a while later.  definitely one of a kind.

The TOS Enterprise model loos like an Art Asylum model. Is that right? And where did the TMP Enterprise and Viper come from? Are those AMT/ERTL kits?

ChrisMC

The TMP Enterprise is the Polar Lights 1/1000 kit put out in 2009, it's a great kit, easy to build, great piece fits. The TOS is also a Polar Lights kit, same scale, it was neat because you could make the Cage Enterprise with the larger bridge dome and capped nacelles. It also came with Mirror Universe decals. The Viper is a Revell model. I just saw it in my local hobby shop and snatched it up. I believe it is a reissue of an older kit. This is another great kit, pretty pleased with how well it came out.

Well, I finally got back around to this, separating the pieces...they had wicked overpour on them, a lot of trimming and sanding involved. Put a prime and a basecoat on. Now I'm just trying to decide if I want to do a classic or an "unseen" X-Wing so I can customize it how I want.

Wow, the part fit on this model is rough. Ugh.

Well, I finally got it all assembled and it has the main color. Man, this was one of the hardest models I have ever put together. I dont know if it's age or what, but stuff just wasnt lining up. Took alot of cursing and taping over glued pieces. Also, I wanted to tint the cockpit like my old battle-damaged X-Wing toy, but it was too uneven and i had to darken it totally. Plus the dude that came with this old model was an astronaut, not Luke. Anyway, now the real work starts....detaill and weathering.

Nice work! Yeah, lot's of putty can help seal up seams that won't fit right. Now let's paint that bird!

ChrisMC

Yeah, gonna start tomorrow. I need to step back from it for a day. Any tips you can give me would be great!
