This week, it’s a special, BIG (literally) video cast covering many of the great “Star Trek” fan films out there on the web. I try and give everyone a good overview of the various productions (most all still being worked on). Covering another big subject like this is a somewhat daunting task, but I try and give a broad overview of some of these films and hopefully point out some things you may not know about. I do start out the cast talking briefly about the current, new TV season and some of the shows I am watching and enjoying. There is a ton on currently and maybe more genre type TV than ever – with more to come. My TIVO is getting quite a work out and I am generally liking the new series on the air. I also give a very brief review of the new movie, “Surrogates” with Bruce Willis. It’s a cool concept and one that makes for an interesting movie. Then I move on to the fan film coverage.
I cover about six or so main fan films that I know and enjoy. These are set in different eras – some in the TOS time and some in the more modern TNG era and beyond. The productions vary in look, style and technical quality, but I find all of them fun to watch and enjoy seeing what they come up with next. I will just list the series I look at on the vidcast (click the names to go to the film sites):
Star Trek: New Voyages (now Phase II)
I hope I’ve been able to peak your interest to seek out these fan films. Always keep in mind that the fans that do these do them because of their love of Trek and for fun. These are not full, professional productions, but many do a great job with extremely limited resources.
Next week I will be covering the “Enterprise” episode called, “Singularity.” I hope you come back then. Take care!
