Podcast # 253 – “Doctor Bashir, I Presume” – 0911.15

This weekend on the podcast I cover a fifth season Deep Space Nine episode called, “Doctor Bashir, I Presume.” We get to learn quite a bit about our good Doctor Julian Bashir in this tale.  First, I talk some about my current job situation.  All seems to be going well and I hope to know soon if this is to become a permanent position.  It certainly has made time go by quickly and been keeping me very busy – especially being away from home during the week.  But all is good and I’m happy to be back working once again.  I also talk a little about the new movie just out, “2012.”  I saw this yesterday and thought it was pretty cool.  Some amazing CGI effects and images of things you will rarely see in a movie.  Of course the whole end of the world scenario type of film might not be for everyone, but I enjoyed it and the message it tried to get across.  And finally, I talk a bit about the upcoming DVD and Blu-Ray release of last spring’s hit “Star Trek” movie.  I’m still very tempted to jump into the Blu-Ray waters for this movie.  There are many versions with different extra goodies out for the film.  I know many places such as Target, Best Buy, and Amazon.com all have special packages and deals going.  I’m looking forward to seeing the movie at home and watching all the extra features later this week.

Then it’s on to the main topic for this podcast, the DS9 episode, “Doctor Bashir, I Presume.”  This is a very interesting episode and one that reveals a deep secret from Doctor Bashir’s past.  It’s a great character type of episode with not a lot of huge plot stuff going on, but just a story about the characters.  We get some great guest folks in this episode too, including Robert Picardo playing Dr. Zimmerman, the creator of the EMH program for Voyager.  Lots of interesting things to think about while watching this episode and it’s one I enjoy watching quite a bit.  I also play some listener comments from Mike and Rick after my commentary.  Thanks for that stuff guys and especially for the new song Rick.  Awesome song, again!
