This first weekend we have a special treat for all of you.  For this podcast is a guest hosted cast with musical expert Vartok covering the vast library of composer John Williams.  Quie a big topic but Vartok covers it with a deftness and beadth that is quite amazing for a first time out as a guest host.  I am really impressed by his show and I know all of you will enjoy it too.  I’ll turn the rest of the podcast notes over to him now and I’ll talk to you next week.  Thanks much Vartok!

John Williams: America’s Composer

Happy New Year 2010 to everyone from Vartok to the Treks in Sci-Fi community.  A Big Thanks goes out to Rico for allowing me to finally “take the helm” and create a special Music in Sci-Fi podcast about John Williams, an American treasure and America’s composer.  In this 1 hour and 19 minute audio tribute John’s early life is covered starting with his birthday on February 8, 1932.  John started out as a session pianist and arranger for others including Henry Mancini in the mid 1950s through early 1960s.  His first movie score was complete in 1958 and he slowly but surely built his reputation via television show scores and films over the next six decades into the top film composer of our time.  His first sci-fi music started in 1965 with Lost in Space and thankfully for all of us he has never looked back.  Today he is best known for his scores to Jaws, Star Wars, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Superman, Indiana Jones, E.T. The Extraterrestrial, Jurassic Park, Schindler’s List, Harry Potter, and so much more!  A special thanks to Rico, Meds, Moyer777, Bromptonboy, Feathers, and Ryan for their input to help make this podcast more interesting.

Next week Rico will be back with another Treks in Sci Fi podcast featuring the Enterprise episode titled “The Aenar” (pronounced EE-Nar).  And in two weeks a special podcast on The Fellowship of the Ring film.  Feel free to send in your audio comments to Rico for these and other upcoming podcast.  Thanks for listening!
