Podcast # 265 – Short lived SF & Fantasy TV – 1002.07

The podcast this weekend covers short lived (about a season or less) Sci-Fi and Fantasy TV shows.  I’ve covered things like this a bit before, but I wanted to do more and talk about some gems that I both really enjoyed and miss a lot.  All of these series (in my view) deserved to get longer runs, but it wasn’t in the cards I guess.  Anyway, I start the show out with the usual talk about my job and housing situation.  Things are working out pretty well and I’m fairly settled in now.  It’s still hard to be away from home for so long, but I’m managing it.  I also chat a little about Trek and William Shatner’s latest spot on the WWE wrestling show.  The Shat is truly a master of everything it seems and still manages to show up in new places after all these years in the business.  I hope I’m as active as he is when I reach his age.

One of the best parts of this week’s podcast was the nice variety of clips I got from listeners.  I sprinkle those in as I go through several of my favorite short lived TV series from the genre.  Most of the series I cover this time out are within the last decade or so and on a variety of networks.  Although it does seem that Fox is a bit more notorious for quickly canceling TV shows and especially SF type ones.  I go through various series and you can see some of the ones I cover in the image above.  I try not to give away too much about the show, in case you still haven’t had the chance to see them.  Most of the ones I discuss are out on DVD as are the ones the listener comments cover.  Even though all of these series lasted only a short time, I think they are all still well worth watching.  You can also find information on some of these shows about what the makers and writers had in mind for them if the show had continued.  Just do some net searches and I’m sure you will discover some interesting facts.  And keep in mind this is just a small sampling of short lived genre shows and there are many more out there that had similar fates.
