This weekend on the podcast, I finally devote almost an entire podcast to one of my favorite short-lived series of all time – “Firefly.” I cover the background for the show and many other aspects on the podcast. First up, I chat a little about the recent “Predators” movie that I saw a few days ago and what I thought of it. Next, our friend Vartok shares an interview with some of the members of his new Trek fan film production. Very interesting and it’s great to see younger folks getting into Trek this way. Good for them for giving it a go. Then it’s on to the main topic.
“Firefly” first came on the air in the fall of 2002. I actually almost missed it completely when it aired (only saw one episode then). But I caught up with it later on when the DVD’s came out and have loved it ever since. It combines two of my favorite things, Sci-Fi and westerns into a magical mix of drama, action, romance and great characters. I try and give everyone a quick rundown on the large cast and their characters as well as covering some of the background on the series and how the Fox network tried to mess with it at every turn. Joss Whedon again created a ‘Verse that is rich with story and amazing detail. I love watching and re-watching the episodes and just wish there were more than the 14 episodes and one feature film to see. I especially think the casting was spot on and all of the actors have gone on to do other very cool things. This is truly a TV series that deserved to last a lot longer. Thanks to those that sent in audio contributions for this week’s podcast. I hope you enjoy the cast and if you are not a fan already, make sure to dash over to Amazon and buy the DVD’s today. I assure you, it will be one of the best things you have ever watched.
Next weekend I will be covering the TNG episode, “Ensign Ro” along with the usual other geekery. Take care until then and stay, ‘Shiny!’
