Podcast #900 – Nerd News – 2304.09

To celebrate show 900 I decided to do an all nerd news show. I do talk a little about the podcast overall and history of the show. It’s fun to look back on all that I’ve covered over the years. Then I discuss a lot of the news, trailers and more coming from “Star Wars: Celebration 2023” happening in London this weekend. Lots of big announcements coming out and cool stuff to watch. Sounds like a great deal of cool “Star Wars” content coming for us. I wrap up the show talking about my thoughts about the recent episodes of “Star Trek: Picard.” Only two more episodes to wrap everything up. Hopefully it will end strong.

That’s it for this week. Thanks for listening and talk to you again very soon.

Podcast #899 – CONTEST! – 2303.26

A shorter than normal podcast this week announcing a contest to win a Blu-Ray copy of “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” that is now out on DVD and Blu-Ray. It’s a great series and one of the best first seasons of any Trek series. Listen to the podcast for details on how to enter to win. I also talk very briefly about the latest episode (the 6th) of “Star Trek: Picard.” Only four more to go!

Next week might be a skip week and then in two weeks a special show for #900. Schedule subject to change – as always. Take care and enjoy your week.

Podcast #898 – Movie Music – 2303.19

This week the main topic is favorite movie theme music. I also talk about the new “Shazam: Fury of the Gods” film and the latest episode of “Star Trek: Picard.”

When I movie on to movie music I play some of my most favorite music pieces from several films and film series. All of these are well known and iconic – and fantastic too! I also have a music moment segment from Vartok covering the music of “The Book of Boba Fett.” Thanks Vartok for that!

Next weekend will be busy for me so it will be a skip week but I’ll be back in two week with another new podcast. Take care until then and enjoy your week ahead.

Podcast #897 – “Legacy” – 2303.12

A classic style show this work where I do a full commentary on the TNG episode, “Legacy.” First, I give a few comments about the recent new “Picard” episodes (spoiler free). I’m getting more excited and intrigued by the series now that we have had four episodes. A bit of talk about the Oscars (tonight) and then on to TNG.

This was a fun episode to revisit – especially with all the TNG folks on Picard it’s nice to see them back in their heyday. I like this episode and had hoped we would get to see more of Ishara Yar someday. Hope you liked my commentary.

Next week I will be back with a music based show on some of my favorite theme music from movies. Until next time, enjoy your week ahead and stay well.

Podcast #896 – Journey to 2001/2010 – 2303.05

This week a special show featuring the “Journey to Wonder” podcast duo of Chris and Joe. They cover both “2001: A Space Odyssey” and “2010: Odyssey Two” in both books and movies. Here are some notes from them on this show.

This time on Journey to Wonder, we travel to Saturn (or is it Jupiter?) with Arthur C. Clarke’s 1968 sci fi novel, 2001: A Space Odyssey. Of course, you can’t talk about 2001 the book without talking about the seminal Stanley Kubrick film that was developed alongside the novel and released the same year.

In addition, we dive into the sequel novel, 2010: Odyssey Two and it’s 1984 film adaptation starring Roy Scheider (among many others!)

Big thanks to Joe & Chris for letting me share their show. Check them out on Libsyn here for more of their podcasts.

I’ll be here next week doing a classic style show featuring commentary on the TNG episode “Legacy.” Thanks for tuning in this week and enjoy your week ahead.

Podcast #895 – Picard Season Three – 2302.26

Ok, this week I mainly talk about the first two episodes of season three of “Star Trek: Picard.” I talk about other genre and non-genre stuff first and then dive into Picard. I have quite a few things to say about these first two episodes. There are some spoilers for these episodes so don’t listen if you haven’t watched these yet. I do have some questions and a couple concerns so far about this season. Hope you enjoy listening to what I have to say this week.

Next week will be a guest cast or repeat show. I’ll be back in two weeks with a new podcast from me. Also, the website is getting some changes and upgrades – just to let you know. Until next time take care and enjoy your week ahead.

Podcast #894 – “The Bellero Shield” – 2302.19

This week our most prolific gust host is back and covering another great episode from the 60’s era show, “The Outer Limits.” Here’s Mark with some comments about his guest spot.

Hello Everybody!

This is Mark Daniels from the Great Pacific Northwest.  I’m back this week as a guest host.  This week I review another episode of the classic science fiction anthology series “The Outer Limits.” It’s “The Bellero Shield“, starring Martin Landau and Sally Kellerman.  It’s got a great story and cast.  This is classic science fiction at its best.  I hope you enjoy it!

Everyone take care of themselves! This is M-5 signing off!

Thanks again Mark for another awesome guest podcast. I’ll be back next week with a look at the first two episodes of “Star Trek: Picard” – season three. Hope you have a great week.

Thanks all!

Podcast #893 – TV Themes – 2302.12

Back again this week with another new podcast. I first chat a little about recent TV and movies and the upcoming season 3 of “Star Trek: Picard” that starts later this week. Then it’s on to the main topic. I love TV opening themes – and I miss them. Many new shows these days have eliminated the opening credit sequence to save time and money. But, I love older show theme songs and they make me feel like I did when watching the shows of days gone by. So this week I play several TV opening themes for you from different decades – starting way back in the 1960’s era. I had a lot of fun with this show and hope you like listening to it as well.

Next week Mark will be here to review an older episode of the classic “Outer Limits” tv series. Hope everyone enjoys the Superbowl later today – or at least the ads and new trailers. Take care and enjoy your week ahead.
