This weekend it’s back to “normal” with an audio show about another classic Sci-Fi series from the 1960’s. Another favorite show of mine that I watched all the time growing up. I’m talking about “Lost in Space.” But first this week we discuss some news about the “Star Trek” movie, now filming. Tidbits are leaking out about the film and some more fan made trailers as well. I am trying to remain fairly spoiler free, but in these days of the Internet and news all over the place it’s hard to remain free of all the info pouring out all the time from Hollywood. It seems the writer’s strike is continuing but at least the Trek movie marches on. We have another music segment by Vartok this week. He discusses the composer of the classic Trek theme Alexander “Sandy” Courage. Thanks a lot to Vartok for doing these very interesting clips for us.

Then it’s on to the main topic for the week, “Lost in Space.” This show started on CBS one year before the original “Star Trek” and may have even helped get Trek on the air. It featured the ‘Space Family Robinson’ on their journeys through outer space. This is one of my favorite SF series. The first season is very well done and features a lot of action and adventure. The cast does a very good job on the show and they all are fun to watch. The later seasons became a bit more comedic featuring more of Dr. Smith, the Robot and Will. Still, this is a great series and one that is worth your time, especially if you have never seen it. I play some clips and various bits of music from the series during the discussion. We also have two other listener comments on this series. One from James (Amar on the forums) and another from long time listener Jedi Jeff. Thanks for sending those in guys. The whole series of “Lost in Space” is out on DVD now and I encourage you to check it out when you can.

I wrap up this weekend’s podcast with a quick look at one of the “Lost in Space” collectibles I have. It’s a small scale version of the B-9 robot from the show made by the Franklin Mint. This is a nice little piece and comes with a protective dome over the model. The robot has a voice chip inside and says a few phrases from the series in the normal ‘robot’ voice. This is a cool item and came out around the time of the big screen movie version of the series back in 1998. There are quite a few other collectibles out there from the series too and I’m sure you can find many on eBay. Make sure to click on the photo to see more views of the robot in my gallery (which I am still revamping).

That’s all for this time gang. Talk to you again next week!
