Podcast # 344 – “Forbidden Planet” – 1108.14

This weekend I reviewed a classic Sci-Fi film from the 1950’s called, “Forbidden Planet.” But first, I chat a little about the various cons going on around the country and we get some reports from Kenny & Mina this week.  I also talk a little about the new “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” film too – which I saw the other night and enjoyed quite a bit.  And I talk briefly on the cancellation of the TV series, “Eureka” which will end after it’s upcoming 5th season.  Lots to cover this week and then it’s on to the main event.

“Forbidden Planet” is not only a classic SF film, it’s a classic film period.  The characters, actors, story, look is all top notch – especially for the mid 50’s when this film was made.  I’m especially fond of Robby the Robot which was a hugely expensive prop created for this ground breaking film.  They are many great moments in this film about a man letting his inner ‘ID’ run amok.  I play several clips and try and give you a taste for this awesome film that I have seen many times over the years.  There are also many inspirations for Gene’s first “Star Trek” series shown in this movie about a group of explorers flying around the galaxy searching for adventure.  I hope you enjoyed my brief look at this terrific movie.

That’s about it for this week.  Thanks to everyone that sent in comments for the show.  Tune in next weekend when we will be doing a group commentary on a TNG episode via Skype and Netflix.  Take care until then everyone!
