This weekend I take a plunge into all the cool, new Sci-Fi and Fantasy television we are getting this season. More shows are starting than I had thought at first, and this week I cover the main new ones that I think might be worth checking out. First up though, I talk a little about the release of all six “Star Wars” films on Blu-Ray. This has been a long time coming and it has been met with a little controversy due to the new changes George Lucas has made to the films – once again. Most of the changes and tweaks are fairly minor, but I always ask myself why George feels the need to keep tinkering with his films, some of which are over 30 years old now. It’s not a huge thing to me, but I do find it a bit jarring when I see something changed in a film I have watched many, many times. In any case, I had to pick the discs up and see for myself what it’s all about. The special features alone make it worth it for me. I play some listener audio comments this week too, before getting into the main subject.
I’m pretty happy and impressed with the new TV we are getting this year. Some old favorites are gone, but we have a whole new batch of shows to occupy us with during this fall and winter. I try to focus on mainly the new series in the realm of SF & fantasy. I’m talking about shows like: “Terra Nova”, “Grimm”, “The Secret Circle”, “Once Upon a Time” and so on. Some familiar faces turn up on some of these series and I’m looking forward to trying each of them out. I’m especially looking forward to “Grimm” since some of the same people who worked on “Buffy” and “Angel” are working on this series and it has a similar vibe to it. Make sure to check your local listings for when all these shows will be starting (most by the end of October will be on). I also briefly mention some returning favorites and what I’m looking forward to coming back this year. Overall my TIVO is going to be working hard keeping up with all the TV goodness over the coming months.
That’s about it for this week folks. Next week guest host Rick Moyer will be covering the TNG episode, “Shades of Grey” and I’ll be back in two weeks with a look at the first “Godzilla” film with Raymond Burr. Take care until then and enjoy the new fall TV!
