This weekend I’m back with a classic Trek episode review, some movie & TV talk and much more!

Another week and another fun Trek & SF podcast for everyone. I start out discussing the passing of a couple of Trek legends. Alexander Courage who did the main theme to “Star Trek” and Bob Justman who worked as a producer on the original show passed away this last week. Both contributed greatly to the early days of Trek and both will be missed. I cover a few things going on in the world of the Trek movie and other films. Make sure to visit www.trekmovie.com regularly for up to date Trek movie news & information.
I found out about two Australian college students named ‘Chiaki’ and ‘Ona’, or known collectively as ‘Chonastock’ on Deviantart.com, have done a new series of photos called “Starfleet Redshirts Redux” which tells a story of a landing party you really want to be on. They did some great shots in old style red female uniforms as seen in the original “Star Trek.” One example is up here but make sure to visit their gallery here for many more pictures of them in their classic attire.
I also talk a little TV this week out. “LOST” has finished up it’s season and I really enjoyed all the twists and turns the show took this year. Of course, “Battlestar Galactica” continues to be about the best series on air right now. Only a few more shows until the break we will have to endure until the last half of season four shows up (maybe not until 2009). A big thanks to Vartok for another musical segment on Bear McCreary who composes all the BSG music. Very interesting stuff. And also “Doctor Who” on Friday nights on the Sci-Fi channel in the US continues to be a lot of fun to watch each week.
Then I move on to the main episode topic for the week. This time it’s a classic episode from early in season one called, “Miri.” This is an interesting tale and one with some strong performances from both the regular cast and some guest stars too. Kim Darby as the young woman named Miri is especially well played by Kim Darby (who has continued to act & teach acting I found out after I finished the podcast). It’s also nice to see Yeoman Rand (Grace Lee Whitney) get some good solid work off the Enterprise. Of course she also catches the deadly disease like the rest of the landing party when they visit a very Earth like planet. Overall, it’s a fun episode to watch. Pay attention for views of some of the cast’s kids who show up in this episode as guests.
I finish off the podcast with a quick review of my Kotobukiya Supergirl staue I got a couple months back but just got around to opening it up. This is a 1:6 scale piece and the paint job and sculpt are very well done I think. She’s seen as she appears in recent modern comics in sort of a teen Supergirl type outfit. I really like the Kotobukiya stuff and you can get some very nice pieces for a reasonable price. Click the picture here to see more views of it in my collection. It’s a very slick and cute piece.
I think that’s it for this week out gang. Next Saturday at 1pm EDT I will be recording a Skype call for next weekend’s podcast. We will be discussing the usual things like TV & movies in the SF & Fantasy realms. Make sure to tune in for that special show. Until next time, take care!
