Podcast # 388 – “The Maquis” – 1206.10

This weekend I cover a great set of episodes from season two of “Deep Space Nine” called “The Maquis.”  I first cover three recent films now out in theaters that I have seen over the last couple of weeks (including a spoiler free review of “Prometheus” too).  Lots of good things to see at the movies these days and you should go out and take advantage of it.  The I talk some Trek movie news and a few other things too.  Then it’s on to covering this week’s Trek episodes.

The two-part DS9 episodes I cover were a way to set up some things for “Star Trek: Voyager” when it needed sort of a rebel band to be involved in that show (which would start about a year after this set of DS9 episodes).  It’s basically a story of some Federation colonists who are turning to terrorism to stop Cardassians in the DMZ area of space where they live.  Sisko runs into an old friend who it turns out is basically the leader of this group that call themselves the Maquis.  It’s an interesting set of episodes and does what DS9 did so well, which was showing the shades of grey out in the universe and what people will do when they are forced to do some unpleasant things to protect their lives and homes.  I very much enjoyed covering these and watching these episodes once again for this podcast.

I wrap up this week with some announcements and other things.  You can now join our Treks in Sci-Fi Facebook group HERE and listen to the podcast on Stitcher Radio HERE.  I hope these new avenues helps you enjoy the podcasts even more (tell your friends about us too).  Next week Al & Bryan (the Alien boys) are back with a look at “Alien 3” for all of you.  I’ll be back in two weeks with a look at the classic 50’s Sci-Fi film called “This Island Earth.”  So come back and listen to these shows and visit the main web page too when you can.  Take care and enjoy your week ahead.
