This weekend on the podcast I’m back with a look at movie music and soundtracks. First, I give a brief spoiler-free review of “The Dark Knight Rises” and what I thought about this final film in the Nolan/Bale/Batman trilogy of movies. I also talk a little about Trek and dispel a few internet rumors floating around the last week or two. Then I move on to the main topic for the week. I’ve been a big fan of motion picture soundtracks and scores ever since I bought the vinyl album to the first “Star Wars” film way back in 1977. Music in films add such a dimension and layer to the movies that I love and find it exciting to listen to various soundtracks to movies I love. I play several pieces from more recent movie series and films that I enjoy not only for the films themselves but also ones where I really enjoy the music too. Movies like the “Harry Potter” series, “Lord of the Rings” and the recent “Batman” films have some great musical scores and add a ton to the experience of seeing the films. I play a few other key selections I like and also play a great comment from listener (and occasional co-host) Chris about movie music. The choices I picked out for this week are not at all exhaustive or comprehensive, but just represent some of my favorites in recent years. I wrap up the podcast for this week with a look ahead for the podcast. Tune in next week for a look at the “Dune” films and books with guests Chris & Bryan. Take care and enjoy your week ahead.
