Podcast # 404 – “Hercules″ & “Xena” – 1209.30

This week on the podcast I cover two of my favorite and fun fantasy series, “Hercules” & “Xena.”  Both of these series I never missed when they were airing each week in syndication in the late 90’s until the both ended after six fun seasons each.  I first talk a bit about the new movie “Looper” and why I call it an ‘adult’ time travel tale.  It’s a very slick movie.  I also talk a bit about Trek and some recent words from Benedict Cumberbatch on working with JJ Abrams.  I also hit on some of the new TV series this season live “Revolution” and “Last Resort” too (a cool, non-genre show I’m enjoying so far).  We also have a cool music segment from Vartok once again on the music from “Torchwood.”  Great stuff Vartok and then it’s on to the fantasy series for this week.  And don’t forget to send in a podcast donation HERE if you haven’t had a chance to do so yet.

“Hercules: The Legendary Journeys” starred Kevin Sorbo and the mythical Greek half-god Hercules.  Along with his sidekick Iolaus they traveled the world helping those in need.  It’s a fun, fantasy series that’s kind of tongue in cheek at times but always good fun to watch.  I liked the actors a great deal and this series eventually had a spin-off series called “Xena: Warrior Princess.”  This show starred Lucy Lawless as Xena who was trying to put her evil past behind her and making up for past wrongs by doing good.  Her sidekick was Gabrielle who become a warrior over time herself and helped Xena along her journey.  This series was a bit more dark and serious than Hercules but still a lot of fun too.  I miss seeing shows like this on the air these days and I think we need a show like this again.  “Legend of the Seeker” tried to do this but only lasted for two cool seasons.  In any case I hope this podcast makes you seek out these shows and give them a look – especially if you have never watched them.

Thanks to Rick Moyer for his new song submission for this week – you rock.  Listen to more of Rick’s songs HERE.  Next week Davekill will be here with a look at “Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow.”  Take care and enjoy your week ahead.
