This week I cover a classic Sci-Fi movie from the late 70’s and one I should have covered a long time ago. “Close Encounters of the Third Kind” is classic Spielberg at his best. The story of contact with aliens that doesn’t end up with them trying to wipe us all out. I first talk about some movies I have seen lately and things to look forward to this holiday season. I also talk about some of the recent TV I’m enjoying and some Trek news too like “Star Trek Renegades” and the TNG theater showing coming up on November 29th later this week. Then it’s on to the feature film for this podcast.
I saw “Close Encounters” in theaters way back 35 years ago when it was first released. This movie along with the first “Star Wars” film really made 1977 a banner year for film entertainment. The movie itself is a fairly simple story of a couple of ordinary people caught up in an extraordinary event – making first contact with aliens. The casting, effects, look, music, and everything in this movie just work perfectly together. I play several clips and give some background on the production. It was cool to watch this film again and I still find it to be a terrific movie that still holds up very well to this day. I hope everyone enjoys this brief look at this Sci-Fi classic. I’ll be back in two weeks with a look at the TOS episode, “Operation: Annihilate!” Take care and enjoy the week ahead.
