Podcast # 448 – The 2001 Odyssey – 1308.04

This week I got together with Chris to talk all about “2001: A Space Odyssey” and the sequel film and books.  We start the show with some fun weather reports and then I go into my spoiler free impressions of “The Wolverine” movie that I saw last week.  Chris shares his thoughts on the announced Superman/Batman film and what we both think the things they will need to be careful with as the DC universe moves forward on the big screen.  One slight correction, the new animated Batman series is called, “Beware the Batman.”  We then we move on to the main topic.  Covering a film like “2001: A Space Odyssey” has to start with a look at author and visionary Arthur C. Clarke.  Chris gives some background on Clarke and how he and Stanley Kubrick made this epic story and film together.  We give you some background, play clips and talk about some of the meaning in this amazing piece of film.  We also cover the sequel film from 1984 called, “2010: The Year We Make Contact.”  We both like this film a lot too and we cover the plot, actors, and general ideas presented.  We also run down the follow up books Clarke wrote to finish out his epic Odyssey tale.  This is a long podcast, but I think it should be a fun one to listen and enjoy.  Next week, guest host Meds will be here with a look at the 80’s era TV series, “Knight Rider.”  Until then take care and enjoy your week ahead.
