This week it’s a classic style podcast covering the third season TOS episode, “The Cloud Minders.” But first, I put out a call again for donations to the podcast for our annual hosting fees. Click HERE if you enjoy the podcast each week and want to contribute. I talk about the “Riddick” film that at saw last weekend in the theater. This is a fun, old-school hard R rated movie. An enjoyable diversion for an afternoon. Then I talk a little about the recent home video release for “Star Trek Into Darkness” and the multiple retailer versions out there (not a fan of this practice). I also talk about two cool, new Trek books. One is an art book of retro style TOS episode posters by Juan Ortiz called: “Star Trek: The Art of Juan Ortiz.” A terrific collection of episode posters for TOS. Next is another great book of reference materials on TOS called, “The Are the Voyages: TOS Season One” by Marc Cushman and Susan Osborn. A great reference chronicling the making of season one for the original series. Then I move to our episode for this week.
“The Cloud Minders” is a tale of the haves and have nots. It has many similarities to the recent “Elysium” film out last month. I enjoyed looking back at this story and feel it’s a pretty good third season entry for TOS. There are some good guest stars, the story moves along, and we get to see an interesting new society. I play several clips and comment about the episode passing on behind the scenes info too. Long time Trek writer, David Gerrold came up with the original story idea for this one and I think it’s a good one. Hope you enjoy my discussion of the episode. That wraps things up for this week. Next week Chris & Joby will be here to discuss the big topic of Stephen King. So, enjoy your week ahead and take care until next time.
