Superbowl 2011 ads

I’m not a big sports watcher, but I do like the Superbowl for the cool new ads.  A lot of them have already been showing up on Youtube the past week or so.  I think this year’s ad group looks pretty cool so far.  Plus, we are also getting some cool new movie previews too.  I’m going to post a couple of my favorites with a lot of “geek appeal” down below here.  Of course, check Youtube and other places online this week for all the rest.  Enjoy the ads!

“The Cape” TV series starts

The superhero drama, “The Cape” has started on NBC.  It features the story of a police officer who is wrongly accused of a crime and has to go underground to clear his name as the crime fighter comic book hero known as The Cape.  The first pilot episode has aired and I enjoyed it.  The actors are good, characters are fun, and with “Heroes” now gone it gives us comic book fans a new hero to root for on TV.  A cast picture is below along with a little preview of the series.  I urge everyone to give this show a try.  I think you will enjoy it a lot!

“Harry Potter 7” Opens

“Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows – Part One” has now opened at theaters.  This is the first part to the last Harry Potter movie (and book) series.  I recently saw this final first part and enjoyed it greatly.  Even though it’s hard to leave the theater with the story unfinished, I really liked how the added time allowed them to get more of the book into the movie.  They’ve again done a great job and capturing the feel of this fairly grim and difficult final story.  It’s all of course leading up to a final showdown between Harry and Voldemort.  The main trio are at their best and most real and emotional here and it’s great to see.  I highly suggest you run out and see this movie and then read the book, if you haven’t.  I’d be surprised if you can wait until July to see what happens next.  See a preview for the film below.

New series, “The Walking Dead”

A new TV series begins on Halloween and is based on a comic book series called “The Walking Dead.” It follows a deputy who wakes up from a coma to find out that most of the people in the world have become zombies.  He sets off to find his wife and son and try to stay alive.  This series is on AMC and looks to be really good.  I’m not a huge fan of zombies and so forth, but this looks to be an intelligent and well made series.  I’ll definitely be watching and seeing if the people that are left can still survive the zombie apocalypse.  See a preview for it below:

George & Katee on “Big Bang”

This coming Thursday (Oct. 14th), on “The Big Bang Theory” tv show, two Sci-Fi icons will appear together.  George Takei and Katee Sackhoff will be showing up to play different aspects of Howard’s psyche.  As an added treat we get to see each of these guests wearing outfits they wore on their respective shows.  George shows up in his movie outfit from two of the Trek films.  And Katee of course is wearing her flight suit from BSG.  This looks to be another great episode for one of the geekiest and funniest TV series on the air right now.  You can see a little preview clip HERE and below is a nice behind the scenes chat with the two guest stars.  So, make sure to not miss it!  “So say we all!”

“Race” animated film

A cool new animated film called “RACE” is going to be coming to the Showtime network on October 14th and is also out on DVD now.  The animation looks very sharp with lots of high-speed action for fans of animation and Sci-Fi to enjoy.  Below you can read a brief synopsis and also get a preview of the film.  You can find the movie on Amazon or also on iTunes too.  Enjoy it and check it out soon!

The Synopsis: On the high energy Star Car racing circuit, driver Trance Caldron and Team Earth are independent, undisciplined, and out to prove themselves.  After they stumble onto an attempt by archrival Team Tagmatian to overthrow the peacekeeping Alliance leadership, the prestigious Star Car Championship becomes a mach speed backdrop for a deadly showdown where the fate of the universe hangs in the balance.  Trance must push his car, his team, and himself to the limit.  In a race between good and evil… Winning is everything.

“Clone Wars” – season 3

The animated “Clone Wars” TV series has returned for season three of this fun show.  The first couple of episodes have now aired and I love what I’m seeing.  If you think this show is just for kids – think again.  This is a well written, acted and produced show for all ages.  I’m impressed week after week with what I’m seeing.  If only we could get some live action movies like this!  It’s really amazing how much they can move you and make you care about even these Clone Troopers.  Loved the past two seasons and this one looks even bigger and better!  And they even got edited for the second episode this year.  Check out the clip below that was cut from the broadcast.  Very cool stuff and they should have left it in the show.  Anyway, this airs on Friday nights on the Cartoon Network.  Don’t miss it!
