Indy IV movie now on DVD

Well, the most recent Indiana Jones film, “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” came out this week on DVD & Blu-Ray.  I enjoyed this recent fourth Indy movie when I saw it in the theater last spring.  It was great to see Harrison back in action with the hat & the whip.  The movie wasn’t perfect, but I’m still glad we got another Indy movie.  And maybe if we are lucky we will get an Indy V someday.  I picked up the gift set at Best Buy with the mini crystal skull replica inside.  Coolness!

“Sanctuary” starts on Sci-Fi!

The cool former Net series “Sanctuary” can now be seen on the Sci-Fi channel on Friday nights.  This is a very cool and slick show about a group that looks for oddities in nature and gives them refuge.  Sometime for their own protection and sometimes for the protection of the world.  The first episode just aired last night and I’m really loving it so far.  It has a very cool look and vibe.  So tune in to the Sci-Fi channel on Friday nights for “Sanctuary” starring Amanda Tapping (with dark hair and an English accent)!

Iron Man now out on DVD!

“Iron Man” comes out on DVD and Blu-Ray today.  This is a cool movie and I’ll be picking it up very soon.  The sets coming out contain several extended and deleted scenes.  Here are a couple of them:

Iron Man Extended Scene – Fun on the Plane

Iron Man Deleted Scene – Pepper and Tony in Dubai

Dark Knight Re-Release in 2009!

Warner Bros. Pictures plans to rerelease blockbuster The Dark Knight in January, the height of Academy Awards voting season, says The Hollywood Reporter.

“It’s just a matter of bringing it back as a reminder for people,” a source told the trade.

Warners domestic distribution president Dan Fellman acknowledged ongoing talks with IMAX executives about the prospect of restoring the film to some number of giant-screen venues in January. It’s uncertain if The Dark Knight also will reappear in conventional theaters at that point.

To date, the film has earned about $513 million domestically and $440 million internationally, including more than $55 million in IMAX grosses. The DVD and Blu-ray Disc are expected to hit stores in December.

New Bond Trailer

A brand new trailer is now up for the very exciting looking “Quantum of Solace” film due to open on November 14th.  This film brings the excellent Daniel Craig back as Bond in a direct follow up to his first Bond film outing, “Casino Royale.”  I loved his last turn as Bond and this one looks even better.  Use the link HERE to see a nice version of it, or just view it via the YouTube plugin below:

Vamps are Back!

A new HBO series featuring vampires on TV is starting up on September 7th on the cable network. I still miss “Moonlight” from last season after CBS “staked” the most recent vampire series. Maybe this new on will fill the void. Here is some more information:

While you wouldn’t expect the Oscar-winning writer of the suburban drama American Beauty to have much to do with the horror genre, Alan Ball dealt tangentially with the supernatural when he wrote and produced five seasons of the HBO show Six Feet Under, which centered around a family-run funeral home where the “guests” offered their unfiltered opinion on the complicated dysfunctional relationships of their caretakers.

With his new HBO show True Blood, Ball is taking on some “pretty hardcore genre” as he puts it. Based on Charlaine Harris’ “The Southern Vampire Mysteries,” the new series which premieres on Sunday, September 7th stars Anna Paquin (aka “Rogue” from the X-Men movies) as telepathic barmaid Sookie Stackhouse whose quiet Louisiana parish is set abuzz by the appearance of its first actual vampire.

Supes to Reboot!?

Even though I enjoyed “Superman Returns”, it seem Warners wants to “reboot” the franchise – again?!?  I think Brandon Routh did a great job and hope he comes back.  Here’s the skinny:

Just a few days after this article was posted, Warner Bros. Pictures Group President Jeff Robinov has told The Wall Street Journal that the studio is going to be reintroducing Superman. We assume this will be similar to how Louis Leterrier’s The Incredible Hulk was a reboot of Ang Lee’s Hulk. Here is what the article says:

Warner Bros. also put on hold plans for another movie starring multiple superheroes — known as “Batman vs. Superman” — after the $215 million “Superman Returns,” which had disappointing box-office returns, didn’t please executives. “‘Superman’ didn’t quite work as a film in the way that we wanted it to,” says Mr. Robinov. “It didn’t position the character the way he needed to be positioned.” “Had ‘Superman’ worked in 2006, we would have had a movie for Christmas of this year or 2009,” he adds. “But now the plan is just to reintroduce Superman without regard to a Batman and Superman movie at all.”

The article also talks about Warner Bros. adapting other DC properties over the new few years. “By 2011, Mr. Robinov plans for DC Comics to supply the material for up to two of the six to eight tent-pole films he hopes Warner Bros. will have in the pipeline by then,” it says. Those projects will likely be about single characters at first, and will be darker much like The Dark Knight:

With “Batman vs. Superman” and “Justice League” stalled, Warner Bros. has quietly adopted Marvel’s model of releasing a single film for each character, and then using those movies and their sequels to build up to a multicharacter film. “Along those lines, we have been developing every DC character that we own,” Mr. Robinov says.

Like the recent Batman sequel — which has become the highest-grossing film of the year thus far — Mr. Robinov wants his next pack of superhero movies to be bathed in the same brooding tone as “The Dark Knight.” Creatively, he sees exploring the evil side to characters as the key to unlocking some of Warner Bros.’ DC properties. “We’re going to try to go dark to the extent that the characters allow it,” he says. That goes for the company’s Superman franchise as well.

The studio is set to announce its plans for future DC movies in the next month. For now, though, it is focused on releasing four comic-book films in the next three years, including a third Batman film, a new film reintroducing Superman, and two movies focusing on other DC Comics characters. Movies featuring Green Lantern, Flash, Green Arrow, and Wonder Woman are all in active development.

Writing of “Hobbit” films begins

“The Lord of the Rings” screenwriting team of Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh, and Philippa Boyens have joined director Guillermo del Toro to write the screenplays for the two planned movies.

Shooting is expected to start at the earliest in the fall of 2009 in New Zealand.  The two movies are set to open in December 2011 and December 2012 respectively.
