“Catching Fire” – good movie

Finally got a chance to see “Catching Fire” today (the second of the “Hunger Games” books – and my favorite).  They did a really good job with the film and I enjoyed it quite a bit.  Of course, a few parts had to be cut for time but it was great to be back in this world with these characters and see their struggles against the oppressive government.  Down below is a music video featuring clips from both films so far along with music from the film (a great Coldplay song).  So, enjoy this and get out to see this cool movie soon!

“Thor: The Dark World”

Thor continues to hammer out the competition at the box office in it’s second week of release.  This sequel to the first film is bigger in just about every way, has lots of action and humor too.  I really enjoyed it and I think most everyone else will too – at least those that enjoy a fun, action adventure like this.  Go check it out soon and have fun!

Episode VII: Dec. 18, 2015

So, it’s official.  The next film in the “Star Wars” sage will open in about two years on December 18, 2015.  It seems a long way off, but they actually will start filming this in 2014 so we should start hearing lots of next in the next few months.  Here’s the official statement from Disney & Co.

STAR WARS: EPISODE VII TO OPEN DECEMBER 18, 2015

With pre-production in full-swing, a confirmed release date of December 18, 2015, has been set for Lucasfilm’s highly anticipated Star Wars: Episode VII.

“We’re very excited to share the official 2015 release date for Star Wars: Episode VII, where it will not only anchor the popular holiday filmgoing season but also ensure our extraordinary filmmaking team has the time needed to deliver a sensational picture,” said Alan Horn, chairman of The Walt Disney Studios.

Star Wars: Episode VII will be directed by J.J. Abrams (Super 8, Mission: Impossible III, Star Trek) and is being scripted by Abrams and Lawrence Kasdan (Raiders of the Lost Ark, The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi). Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy, J.J. Abrams, and Bryan Burk are producing, with Tommy Harper (Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, Jack Ryan, Star Trek Into Darkness) and Jason McGatlin (Tintin,War of the Worlds) serving as executive producers. John Williams is returning to score Star Wars: Episode VII.

Exciting stuff!  I’m very excited by this news.  And here’s a little fan trailer to help stir our excitement even more!

“Ender’s Game” – movie opens

The movie “Ender’s Game” just opened in theater’s this past Friday.  I went out to see it yesterday and really enjoyed it.  I read the book several years ago and felt they do a good job adapting the story to the big screen.  Actor Asa Butterfield as Ender and Harrison Ford as his commander are both very good.  I know there is a little controversy surroudning this film but I think you can still enjoy it for what the movie has to say and it is a good adaptation of the novel.  Check out this TV spot below.

Movie “Gravity” is superb!

I saw the new film, “Gravity” in IMAX 3D yesterday and loved it.  This is one of the best movies of the year – or maybe all time.  It’s just so well done and the story is tight, the actors are terrific and it looks incredible and so very real.  I urge everyone to go see this in theaters where it will really amaze you and keep you on the edge of your seat.  I promise you will love it as much as I did.  Go see it soon!

8th Anniversary LIVE Cast

On Sunday, September 1st at 3pm eastern daylight time I will be doing another one of my annual, live anniversary podcasts via Ustream.  I started the “Treks in Sci-Fi Podcast” way back in 2005 and have been putting out a weekly podcast every since.  So now, after over 450 casts we come to the 8th anniversary of the show.  I’ve gotten to know many great people by doing this that I now call friends and I hope I’ve been able to continue to keep everyone entertained during this long podcast run.  I’m planning to have some contests and prizes, cake and maybe even some dancing too.  I hope you will be able to join me HERE at the above date and time.  It should be a blast!
