“Star Trek: Renegades” – Kickstarter

A new fan film production by Tim Russ and a great cast and crew is being funded via Kickstarter.  The film production has raised over $200K to date and is looking to raise just a little bit more.  I really enjoyed Tim’s film, “Star Trek: Of Gods and Men” and I look forward to this production too.  So take a look at the short trailer below and check out the various links to this film production.  I think it’s going to be great!

9 minutes of “Into Darkness” on Dec. 14th in IMAX

The big news broke a few days ago that we will be getting nine minutes of footage from “Star Trek Into Darkness” starting on Dec. 14th exclusively in IMAX theaters with the release of “The Hobbit.”  JJ Abrams has been very coy about releasing any details, trailers, or real footage yet from next May’s new Trek film, but the wait is almost over now.  Also that weekend a normal trailer for the film will also be showing up in regular theaters and online too.  But to see this nine minutes of exclusive footage you will have to attend an IMAX theater showing to see it.  I certainly know where I will be on December 14th of this year – how about you?

Extended Preview Of Star Trek Into Darkness Showing With Hobbit

Paramount has confirmed with TrekMovie that an extended preview of JJ Abrams 2013 feature Star Trek Into Darkness will be shown exclusively with IMAX 3D showings of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, which premieres on December 14th. This preview is similar to how the first 7 minutes of Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises was shown ahead of IMAX screenings of Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol (which was produced by JJ Abrams, small world). Just like with that preview, you will have to go to the theaters to catch this first glimpse of the movie as TrekMovie has also confirmed the preview will not be shown online.

press release

WORLD PREMIERE EXTENDED PREVIEW OF J. J. ABRAMS’ “STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS” TO DEBUT IN IMAX 3D ON DECEMBER 14th

THE FIRST 9-MINUTES FROM THE ANTICIPATED SEQUEL WILL BE RELEASED EXCLUSIVELY IN DIGITAL IMAX 3D THEATRES WORLDWIDE

HOLLYWOOD, CA (November 14, 2012) – Paramount Pictures will release the first 9-minutes from J.J. Abrams’ eagerly-awaited “STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS” exclusively in IMAX 3D months prior to the film’s official release in May 2013. This first-look at the movie will play in approximately 500 digital IMAX 3D theatres beginning December 14th.

“STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS,” the sequel to Abrams’ 2009 hit film that redefined the Star Trek universe for a new generation, marks the first time exclusive footage has played in IMAX 3D and only the third time a first-look will be released in IMAX.

“Our longtime partners J.J. Abrams, Bryan Burk and the Bad Robot team have really hit it out of the park – the footage is absolutely incredible,” said Greg Foster, Chairman and President, IMAX Filmed Entertainment. “Their use of the IMAX® Camera and canvas is sure to impress current and future Star Trek fans alike, and we’re thrilled to once again work with our friends at Paramount Pictures to offer this extended ‘first look’ at this highly anticipated summer blockbuster.”

To further the IMAX experience, “STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS” used IMAX cameras to capture several sequences. Exclusively in IMAX theaters, sequences filmed with the extremely high-resolution cameras will expand to fill more of the screen with unprecedented crispness and clarity, putting moviegoers right into the explosive action and vast scope of the film.

“STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS” is written by Damon Lindelof, Alex Kurtzman & Roberto Orci and directed by J.J. Abrams. Abrams is producing with Bryan Burk through Bad Robot Productions, along with Lindelof, Kurtzman and Orci.

TNG in theaters on Nov. 29th

To celebrate the upcoming Season two Blu-Ray release for TNG, we are going to get another cool event in movie theaters around the country.  Fathom Events again is planning a special event in theaters for one night only on November 29th.  Read on from this post by Trekcore.com about this cool and special event.

After the huge success of the Star Trek: The Next GenerationSeason 1 theatrical event earlier this year, Fathom Events and CBS will be teaming up once again for a special “celebration” of Season Two. In our interview with CBS executives Ryan Adams and David S. Grant earlier this month, Ryan was unable to reveal the exact episodes which would be featured as the event was still in the process of being finalized, however we’re now fairly certain at this point that one of the episodes will be fan favorite “Q Who“, the pivotal episode which first introduces us to the Borg.

Several theaters in the U.S. are now stating that the Season 2 special (entitled “Star Trek: The Next Generation – A Celebration of Season 2”) will hit the big screen (in selected theaters) onThursday, November 29 (for one night only). The Season 2 blu-ray set would then be released just a few days later on Tuesday, December 4.

We expect Fathom and CBS to issue a full press release soon about the event! In the meantime, lock in your pre-order for the Season 2 remastered blu-ray set below!

JJ Abrams ‘teases’ us with 3 frames of the movie

Prankster JJ Abrams was recently on the Conan talk show and brought along some “footage” from next year’s Trek film, “Star Trek Into Darkness.”  Now, before you get too excited this footage amounted to only three frames of the film.  Basically showing Spock in an environmental suit on some type of volcanic planet or area.  Previous pics have shown Spock being lowered into some type of area in an EV suit, so this isn’t even that much of a surprise to see.  Of course, it still tell us nothing about the film.  Here’s hoping we get a true teaser trailer soon and JJ can stop messing with all of us.  At least, that’s my hope!

New Trek Comics

The IDW company continues to put out some great, new Trek comics.  They have just put out issue # 13 of their ongoing Trek series that is set in the JJ Abrams universe of Trek.  They have been covering recently a new look at the tribbles and now “cupcake” from the 2009 film is featured in the latest book.  Also out this past week is issue one of the TNG mini-series called “Hive” written by Brannon Braga and others.  This is a great story so far and the artwork is good too.  It’s a great time to be both a Trek fan and a comic book fan too.  Learn more detail about these issues HERE.

Walter Koenig gets his Star

Actor Walter Koenig who played Chekov on the original “Star Trek” finally got his star on September 10th on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.  He was there celebrating with several of his friends from Trek along with other friends and fans too.  Walter also played Bester on “Babylon 5” and was involved in many other projects over the years.  I actually met Walter a couple of times at different conventions and he was always very gracious to me and other fans he met.  I’m so happy he finally got recognized and will now have his star among other Hollywood legends for all to see.

“STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS”

So, we finally have a title for the next “Star Trek” movie that is due out on May 17, 2013.  They decided to keep ‘Star Trek’ in the title and not use a colon or a dash.  I’m pretty happy with this title and it’s already growing on me some.  Of course, it doesn’t tell us a lot about the movie which is probably the intention.  Still no word on a trailer or who the villain is going to be in this 12th Trek film from JJ Abrams & Company.  But I’m starting to get excited for this next entry in the Trek franchise.  The folks over at trekmovie.com broke this story late yesterday (or early today depending on your time zone).  Great job guys and keep the info coming!  Oh, and I decided to whip up a mock up movie poster featuring the new title.  See it below:
