More cool Trek film ship imagery

Tobias Richter and his company The Light Works create beautiful digital imagery.  A short time back they did some great renderings of the U.S.S. Kelvin from the new Trek film and now they have done some of the Enterprise herself.  Check more of these out in the article HERE and at his web site at the link above.

TNG Cast Back together!

The main cast of the Next Generation is getting together again in animated form next month on “Family Guy.”  Read on:

Seven years after they last shared a screen together, the entire cast of Star Trek: The Next Generation (Yes, even Wil Wheaton and Denise Crosby) are reuniting… for an episode of Fox’s Family Guy.

The crew of the Enterprise-D will get back together for, of all things, a Star Trek convention in next month’s “Not All Dogs Go to Heaven” episode, which will see Patrick Stewart, Levar Burton, Gates McFadden, Michael Dorn, Wil Wheaton, Denise Crosby, Marina Sirtis, Brent Spiner and Jonathan Frakes appear as themselves as they get kidnapped by Stewie after he doesn’t get to ask all of the questions he wanted at Quahog’s Trek convention.

The episode is due to air March 29th.

New “Star Trek” Movie Trailer Revealed

A new “Star Trek” movie trailer was revealed yesterday and was aired during the Superbowl.  This is a short, 30-second, fast paced look at the movie.  Some of the last trailer is in this along with some cool new scenes.  It looks like Kirk is a bit of a trouble maker and a maverick (which makes sense to me).  Only about 3 months to go now and we will all get to see the final product after this long wait.  Watch it below or go HERE to see the new trailer and other stuff at the official site.

Biggest Trekkie Contest!

Paramount and Esurance have teamed up to offer a new web site featuring content from the upcoming movie and a big contest.  They are looking for the “Biggest Trekkie” out there.  The idea is to make a short little video talking about why you are the biggest trekkie around.  About a minute long at most.  Then submit and and keep your fingers crossed.  The grand prize is a trip for two out to the Hollywood premiere for the film.  I think i’ll be making one of these videos.  Even if I don’t win, at least it might drum up some web site traffic and podcast listeners!  Go HERE for all the content, videos, pictures, and contest details.

Ricardo Montalban Passes Away

Yesterday on Jan. 14th, 2009, “Star Trek” fans worldwide mourned the passing of actor Ricardo Montalban.  He of course is known to us geeks as Khan from both the original series and from “The Wrath of Khan” (the second and best Trek film).  He had many roles over his long career including playing Mr. Roarke on “Fantasy Island.”  Truly one of the greats and always a gentleman.  Rest in peace Ricardo – you will be greatly missed.

Trek Movie Comic Prequel!

The upcoming movie in May is getting a 4 issue comic prequel series from IDW.  This company has been doing some great Trek comics the past few years and this looks to be a good addition to that.  The comic will show events leading up to the film.  Here’s a little more detail (be warned – this may contain spoilers related to the film):

As reported, the comic series starts off after the events of Star Trek Nemesis. The Stardate given is 64333.4, around eight years after Nemesis (Stardate 56893.5). Issue one starts off with Nero and his crew, including his second Ayel, on a mining operation (looking for something called ‘decalithium’) when something seems to go wrong. Also of note is that Nero and his crew have hair and no tattoos (as seen in pre-release images), and although the drilling platform appears the same, Nero’s ship looks different than seen in the Star Trek trailer and press previews…

Issue one goes on sale Jan. 21st!  Learn more and view the 5 page preview HERE.

Trek Movie Props Revealed!

At CES this week, three important “Star Trek” movie props were shown at the “Ultimate Blogger Dinner” sponsored by Lenova.  Chris Sheuer took several pictures of a medical scanner, communicator, and earpiece that he posted up on his Flickr account HERE.  I think they look pretty neat!  Slightly different but still in the style of the original series look.  Make sure to check out his pictures at the link above.
