New writers for next Trek!

It looks like a couple young, new writers are joining up for work on scripting the next Trek film.  They will be joining Roberto Orci in writing the movie expected to come out in 2016 at this point.  Here’s an updated from the folks over at Trekmovie.com about this developing story.

While this isn’t 100% official, The Hollywood Reporter just broke a story that says two new writers will be joining Roberto Orci in writing the 3rd Star Trek movie script. Alex Kurtzman and Damon Lindelof are out.

The new blood comes in the form of J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay. These relatively unknowns do have a relationship with Bad Robot. The pair were tapped to write the script adapting the graphic novel Boilerplate in 2011 (as yet unreleased) for Bad Robot.

That’s it though, there’s no other news on Trek 3 in the article, other than the common assumption that it’s supposed to be out in 2016 to coincide the 50th anniversary of the franchise.

Support: “Yorktown: A Time to Heal” film

“Yorktown: A Time to Heal” is a non-profit fan film produced by Stan Woo. The short film depicts events occurring between Star Trek: The Original Series and Star Trek: The Motion Picture. Production on the film began in 1985, with George Takei reprising his role as Hikaru Sulu, and James Shigeta (Die Hard) as Admiral Nogura.  Support the restoration and additional work on this very cool, fan film project.  Go HERE to learn more of what you can do to see this film finally completed.

“Enterprise” season 3 Blu-Ray trailer

The third season of “Enterprise” will be coming home to Blu-Ray soon.  This unusual season long story arc showing the war with the Xindi I quite enjoyed.  It took the characters and crew to new places and pushed the series in different, bold new directions.  Most fans seem to feel that the best seasons of Enterprise are 3 & 4.  So, check out this brand new hidef trailer and order your copy today right HERE.

“Into Darkness” – home video

Well, “Star Trek Into Darkness” beamed on to store shelves this past week in the US for it’s home video release.  Parmount decided to mess with us and release different versions to different retail chains.  The movie of course is the same, but you get different bonus features depending on where you get your copy.  I went for the Amazon gift set with the phaser prop replica included.  Best Buy, Target, Wal-Mart, iTunes, etc. all have different stuff as far as the extra features on the bonus disks.  This is an annoying trend and one I hope doesn’t happen in the future.  In the meantime, go pick up a copy and enjoy this fun movie once more.  Oh, for a complete rundown on what is on each retailers version, check this great article by the Trekcore folks HERE.

“These Are The Voyages” – TOS book

A great new book called “These Are The Voyages”  is now out that chronicles and goes into amazing detail on the production of the original “Star Trek” series.  Tons of great behind the scenes information on the early days of production and individual entries for all the first season episodes (additional volumes are coming for seasons two and three).  This book is a MUST for any fan of TOS and Trek in general too.  Even for myself, there is a ton of information in this book I have never read about or heard previously.  Another review of this amazing guide book is HERE.  So, go order your copy HERE right now!  It is only logical.

The Trek Collective – website

Here’s a great website and resource (The Trek Collective) on books, comic, collectibles and generally cool goodies coming out and available from the Trek-verse.  Really a nice place to keep up to date on all the latest Trek stuff that is available.  I’m a big collector and this place has some great links to cool items too.  Check it all out right HERE when you can.
