Podcast # 278 – “The Time Tunnel” – 1005.09

This weekend we have a special treat on the podcast.  Long time friend of the show, Jedi Jeff is returning to guest host while I’m away to give us a look at a classic Irwin Allen TV series from the 60’s, “The Time Tunnel.” I’m really happy Jeff decided to suggest this show to cover as it’s one I don’t know real well and haven’t seen in it’s entirety.  Big thanks to Jeff for taking on the guest spot and tackling such a cool subject.  You can watch this series on Hulu right HERE.  I’ll be back next weekend with a Skype chat, so now I’m turning the rest of the notes over to Jeff and his look at this classic, Sci-Fi TV series.

The Time Tunnel was a series that aired on ABC for the 1966 – 1967 season for a total of 30 Episodes. It was produced by Irwin Allen and followed the adventures of two scientists stuck in time well working on the top secret time travel project named Tic Toc. Each week Dr. Tony Newman (James Darren) and Dr. Doug Phillips (Robert Colbert) would either travel back in time to a historical event, or into the future to meet up with Aliens. The staff back at the location of the Time Tunnel, would try and help Tony and Doug from the danger they were in well trying to return them back home. The podcast looks at some of the episodes in the series and plays some interviews of the series principals on their experiences on the show.

Comments

  1. THE TIME TUNNEL (ABC 1966-67) was (generally) a very interesting and highly entertaining Irwin Allen produced 1960s SF tv series that (well) deserved a much longer run than it was originally afforded in primetime network television.

Ironically this single season wonder has literally been airing continuously in tv syndication somewhere in the world since its cancellation back on Friday, September 01st, 1967.

For myself television has never quite been the same (or as good) since the cancellation of THE TIME TUNNEL!
