Podcast # 139 – “Scorpion”

This weekend it’s a look at a very cool two-part episode from “Star Trek: Voyager” called “Scorpion.”

Another fun podcast this week. I first chat about my week long struggle to get my new HD TIVO, my HDTV and Comcast cable to all play nice together. Finally everything seems to be working well after three visits from Comcast. I loved HDTV!

There is a new, somewhat morbid Trek product available. Now you can get your very own photon torpedo coffin like Spock had at the end of “Wrath of Khan.” The company called Eternal Image is starting to sell these torpedo type coffins and various Trek themed urns, etc. to help Trekkies have the ultimate funeral. I’m not sure I’d ever go this far with my love for Trek.

Nathan Moyer sends in a great review of the new movie “Dragon Wars.” This movie seemed to come out of nowhere and I think Nathan discovered why that’s the case. Then it’s on to the episode discussion of the very cool two-parter, “Scorpion.”

I really enjoyed watching this set of episodes again. It reminds me how good “Star Trek: Voyager” got around the third season or so. Of course the main reason for this pair of episodes was to introduce the very popular character, 7 of 9 (player by Jeri Ryan) to the Trek audience. There are many things to enjoy in these episodes. The script is solid and the acting is top notch for the series. Ryan especially gives a strong performance as the borgified 7 of 9. We also get to see a new, very alien race called species 8472. They are about as alien as we ever get to see in a “Star Trek” episode. There are also some very cool effects and battle scenes during this two-parter, including many Borg ships and also the alien ships of species 8472. All in all, it’s some of the best work from the Voyager crew and cast. I also play a couple of audio files from listeners to get their opinions on this set of shows.

The collectible this week is a Star Trek bust done by Sideshow Collectibles a few years ago. It is a bust of 7 of 9 in her silver outfit. I’m very impressed by the look of this piece. The likeness to the character is amazing and the paint job is very well done. Sideshow did about 10-12 of these Trek busts and most came out very well. Click the picture to see more views of this piece in my collection.

Lastly, don’t foget to get your T-Shirt order in. One week left to order. Go HERE and order your shirt today!

As always, thanks for listening to this week’s show. Talk to you all again very soon!
