Podcast # 338 – “Sliders” – 1107.03

This weekend I covered the great Sci-Fi series from the late 90’s, “Sliders.” I go into details on the premise, characters and much more on this great series.  But first up, I chat a little about some recent Trek news and stories.  It’s still looking like the next “Star Trek” film from JJ Abrams and company will be delayed from it’s target release date of June 29, 2012.  Nothing official has come down, but the clock is really ticking now and Paramount is shifting some movies around a bit for next summer to take up the slack.  I think it’s pretty likely it will get delayed at least until late, 2012 – if not later.  Also, you can now watch most TV Trek streaming on Netflix if you can get streaming from Netflix where you live.  It looks like DS9 is the only series not set to go yet (or the animated series).  I expect both of those to also show up, sometime in the near future.  We are also getting some cool new Sci-Fi to watch this summer on the SyFy channel with the return of “Warehouse 13” and “Eureka”, and the new series, “Alphas.”  Looking forward to all of them.

The main topic for this week’s show is the series, “Sliders” that ran for five seasons.  I really enjoyed this series, the premise of traveling to alternate versions of Earth where things are slightly (or even more so) different from the world we know.  The original main characters of Quinn, Wade, Professor Arturo, and Rembrandt are all fun and interesting to watch.  The series had some great stories and ideas – especially in the first 2 seasons.  The show dealt with a lot of classic types of issues, some of which have even turned up in Trek too.  The later seasons were not as good, but still worth watching I think.  I go into some of the background on the show and how and why some of the changes were made on this cool series.  I also play a couple comments from listeners (one from Dan and one from Rick), about this TV show for you to hear.  And we also get a special collectible review from Bryan telling us about a cool prop he recently purchased.  I hope everyone enjoyed the podcast this week.  Tune in next week when I will be covering the Voyager episode, “The Disease.”  Talk to you then and a Happy 4th to all my American listeners out there.  Have a good one!
