Podcast # 375 – “Who Mourns for Adonais?” – 1203.11

This weekend on the podcast I cover another classic TOS episode from early in season two.  First up I talk some about the new film “John Carter” and how much I enjoyed it.  I found it to be a really great romantic adventure type of movie that reminded me some of the first “Star Wars” movie.  I think most of you would really like seeing this one.  I also talk some about what I’m watching on TV these days and a few other topics too.  Not a lot of new Trek movie news this week, so then it was on to the main topic.

The episode “Who Mourns for Adonais?” is a classic tale from the original series and an episode I have seen often.  It has the crew of the Enterprise meeting up with Apollo who claims to be the actual Greek god Apollo from our myths and legends.  Of course, he isn’t quite what he seems to be and the crew needs to discover a way to defeat him and break free of his control.  There are a couple of strong guest stars in this episode that make it really work.  Some cool set work and awesome costumes make this an episode worth seeing a few times – especially in the new enhanced, Blu-Ray versions where they added some additional new effects.  A great episode to cover and I hope you enjoy the clips I play and my discussion of the episode.

I finish off the show by mentioning a couple new collectibles you can take a look at ordering.  The Malcolm Reynolds Pistol made by Qmx and also some new Trek art by the company Bye Bye Robot.  Take a look at these and see what you think.  I have the Mal pistol on order and am anxious to see how it turns out.  That was it for this week, new week guest host Jedi Jeff will be covering the film, “Titan A.E.” for all of you.  I hope you come back then and give it a listen.  Take care until next time and enjoy your week.
