Podcast # 415 – “Journey to the Far Side of the Sun” – 1212.16

This week guest host Mark Daniels (M-5 on the forum) takes us on a “Journey to the Far Side of the Sun.”  This classic Sci-Fi film from 1969 is one I have enjoyed over the years and Mark does a great job in covering it with music, audio clips, and lots of cool info.  Here are a few words from Mark about his special guest podcast:

On the podcast this week, I’m (M-5) going to cover one of my favorite science fiction movies from my childhood.  It’s the 1969 Gerry Anderson classic “Journey to the Far Side of the Sun”.  It’s a solid sci fi movie with some great music.  I hope you enjoy my take on this classic movie.  Take care everyone and have a Very Merry Christmas!

Thanks again for doing another terrific podcast Mark.  I will be back next weekend with our annual holiday vidcast with all of our Secret Santa gift exchange video’s inside.  Everyone have a great week and enjoy your last minute shopping and holiday preparations.  Take care until next time.

  1. Great topic, Mark. I only saw Doppelgänger a couple of years ago. I remember a TV movie (pilot for a show that never happened) called The Stranger (aka, Stranded in Space).
Turns out, that was a 1973 remake of the theatrical film you’ve reviewed. The idea was that the astronaut woukd be trying to get back to his earth each week and evading authorities who considered him an invader or imposter.

I liked that movie, but the critics didn’t. I’ve heard it ended up being a rare Mystery Science Theatre 3000 episode. Clearly, The Far Side Of The Sun is much better than the remake.
Thanks for the walk down memory lane.
If I ever do track down the TV movie, I’ll try to let you know. Might make an interesting comparison.
