New ‘Black Series’ “Star Wars” figures

Hasbro is coming out with a new line of highly detailed action figures for “Star Wars” called their ‘Black Series.’  This is a brand new line of figures in a 6 inch size and looks to be really cool looking.  Here’s a bit more on this new line and some pics.  Expect these to start appearing online and in stores soon.

Star Wars action figures are growing up with their audience.

After 35 years of fantastic plastic standing tall in pop culture at 3¾ inches, Hasbro is releasing the Star Wars Black Series this year, beginning a new set of 6-inch figures that will feature more articulation and an increased attention to detail.

Priced at $19.99 each, eight figures are planned for 2013 — Hasbro will primarily draw characters from the original Star Wars trilogy of films while also bringing in key players from the prequels.

The first wave of four, due out in early to mid-August, includes Luke Skywalker in his X-Wing Fighter flight suit, fan-favorite droid R2-D2, bad guy Darth Maul and an Imperial Sandtrooper.

“We consider them the best figures that Hasbro’s ever produced for Star Wars that meets the sensibilities of romancing the character as well as the playability and poseability that fans really appreciate,” says Derryl DePriest, Hasbro vice president of boys marketing.

Hasbro has had success with the scale before with the 6-inch Marvel Legends figures based on Marvel Comics heroes and villains. In terms of Star Wars, though, the Black Series will act as a transitional point between the 3¾-inch toys — “which is rooted in the childhood memories of generations of now-grown kids,” DePriest says — and the 12-inch Sideshow Collectibles figures for adult collectors.

The current “vintage”-style line of 3¾ figures will also continue under the Black Series banner.

“Man of Steel” – full trailer

I am very much looking forward to this coming summer’s “Man of Steel” film and this new take on Superman.  I’m excited by the look and tone we get from this trailer.  I think director Zack Snyder is really going to give us a special, and unique look at this iconic character.  I know I’ll be there in theaters on June 14 this year to see the Man of Steel in action again on the big screen.  See the most recent trailer below:

“The Hobbit” – part 1

Well, on December 14th the first part of “The Hobbit” came out in theaters everywhere.  It’s a fun, and very long movie that is visually stunning.  I got a chance to see it on opening weekend in an IMAX 3D theater along with seeing the 9 minute “Star Trek Into Darkness” preview.  I enjoyed the movie quite a bit but could have been fine with leaving out some of the changes and additions to the original story.  However, if you are a fan of fantasy and Tolkien especially don’t let this movie pass by without seeing it in the theater.  It’s really a treat for the eyes and senses.  Personally I wouldn’t bother with the 3D version, but that choice is up to you of course.  Just go out and enjoy “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.”  I know you will have a good time.

“Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome”

The long delayed “BSG: Blood & Chrome” project has finally started to be released.  It will be shown first as a series of 10 web episodes of about 10 minutes each followed by a showing of the entire film on the SyFy channel in early 2013.  This series covers the first Cylon War with a young William Adama as an eager fighter pilot.  The film will also later be released in February of 2013 as a full, unrated feature and you can preorder that already HERE.  The first two parts are already out online and they are frakking awesome!  See those parts below along with a trailer for the Blu-Ray/DVD release coming in early 2013.  I hope this does so well that we get the SyFy channel to start a brand new BSG series.  Now that would be really awesome!

Lucasfilm sold to Disney!

In some of the most surprising geek news ever, George Lucas has sold off Lucasfilm & the Star Wars franchise to Disney.  And the even bigger news is we are going to be getting a brand new trilogy of “Star Wars” films starting with episode 7 in 2015!  This is huge!  Many, many years ago in the dawn of “Star Wars” George Lucas talked a little about an Episode 7, 8, and 9 but in more recent times he said he wouldn’t make any more movies – and actually he isn’t – Disney and others are taking the job over.  I’m super excited to see what this means and how it all works out.  Check the link HERE to learn a bit more and watch the video below.  It’s a great time to be a geek!

“Iron Man 3” trailer is up

This past week we got our first trailer and real look at the next film in this series, “Iron Man 3.”  I’ve really enjoyed the past two films and of course this past summer’s monster hit, “Avengers” film too.  This new Iron Man film looks to be maybe a bit more serious in tone, grittier and more dangerous than ever for Tony Stark and those around him.  Check out the trailer below and I’m sure you will get excited for the films release next year on May 3, 2013.  Can’t wait for it!

Adele’s “Skyfall” song for Bond

Singer Adele has officially released her title song for the upcoming new Bond film, “Skyfall.”  This song is kind of a throwback to older Bond title songs and I think Adele’s voice really works well for this type of melody.  I’m really enjoying it and it’s making me even more excited for the new film coming out on November 9th of this year (only about a month away right now).  Give it a listen and it can be purchased on iTunes and other places online right now too.

Indy on Blu-Ray

Finally, we are getting the complete Indiana Jones movie collection on Blu-Ray on September 18th.  All four films with a fifth disc of cool bonus features too.  This is a set I’ve waited a long time for and I can’t wait to watch all of it (yes, even the 4th film too).  So get out your fedora and bullwhip and get ready to enjoy Indy all over again.  Order your copy today right HERE.  It’s going to be awesome!
