Spock on movie set – pics

Some pictures have gotten out of Spock (Zachary Quinto) on the set filming the next “Star Trek” movie.  The pictures show our favorite Vulcan in some type of EV suit being lowered into something.  The story going around is this could be some type of volcanic area of some kind.  Of course, we will have to wait for about a year to know for sure since the next film isn’t due to come out until May of 2013.  But it looks like they are having some fun filming this scene.  More to come on this and the movie as time goes on.

Walter Koenig to get his Star

Finally, after about 6 years of fans petitioning to get actor Walter Koenig his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, it will finally happen later this year with a big celebration on September 10th, 2012.  The actor who played Chekov and Bester and many other roles will finally get some of the recognition he deserves.  I’ve had the pleasure to meet and interview Walter and he is a gracious, charming and intelligent man.  To learn more about the big celebration coming up with a convention and many Trek guests to help Walter celebrate this terrific honor, visit the Planet Xpo site right HERE to learn more.  Congrats again Walter – you’ve earned it!

Almost a full scale Enterprise in Vegas?

Yep!  Back in around 1992 before the Trek Vegas Experience opened (later in 1998), an ambitious idea was tossed around to build a full scale replica of the U.S.S. Enterprise that would sit on the ground in Las Vegas and let people visit the Starship Enterprise.  This bold plan of course never took place, but concept art and some preliminary work was done on what it would take to create such an amazing attraction.  I for one would have jumped at the chance to visit such an attraction and I know many people would have felt the same way.  Here’s a bit more on this very cool idea and story from the blog of Gary Goddard of “The Goddard Group”….

My concept was to do something so large and so epic, it would fire the imaginations of people around the world. After looking at how difficult it would be to bring people to the downtown core (from the Strip), I knew we had to have something really exciting, dynamic, and without equal. We kicked around a few ideas, and then I came up with something really unique. I went to Chuck Canciller, my lead designer then – and a genius as well – and said, “What if we built the STARSHIP ENTERPRISE – FULL SCALE – on the land at the end of the street. Imagine that…” Chuck looked at me as if I had lost my mind, but by that time he also knew I was serious about big ideas like this. He immediately started working on some ideas.

New Trek Fan Film, “The Child”

A brand new “Star Trek” fan film is now up from the “Star Trek: Phase II” gang and it’s called “The Child.”  This story was created a long time ago and even adapted for a TNG episode too.  But now this awesome fan film series has turned it into a full, TOS-type episode.  It’s a very enjoyable story and as usual the effects are top notch.  So sit back, relax and get ready for another free fan-made TOS episode for everyone to enjoy!

Happy Birthdays!

Two Trek legends and best friends, William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy both recently had birthdays at the end of March.  They were actually only born a few days apart in the same year (in 1931 and both are now 81 years young).  These two actors and the characters they created shaped much of my childhood and I owe them both a great deal for providing such great role models and also for creating some great stories to watch on the original “Star Trek.”  So Happy Birthday to you both and may you both continue to live long and prosper.

Finally – next Trek movie set pics!

Well, finally we have some set pictures from the filming of the next “Star Trek” movie.  These pictures obviously show a fight between Spock (Zachary Quinto) and the main villain (played by Benedict Cumberbatch).  Uhura (Zoe Saldana) also lends a hand with her trusty phaser.  Looks very exciting!  Still no word on the character Cumberbatch is playing, but he is dressed here in what looks like a Starfleet cadet outfit of some type.  He also looks to be giving Spock a run for his money in the fight (making me guess that the villain might not be quite human).  I’m sure we will know more soon as production continues to move forward towards the 2013 release.

“Star Trek – ….” – now filming for 2013 release

We still have no official movie title or much of an idea on the story, but the next “Star Trek” movie is currently filming.  All the cast of the 2009 film is back, the writers are the same, the music composer is the same and JJ Abrams is again directing.  I’m pretty excited to see what they have come up with after what will end up being a long, four year wait between films.  The guest cast looks very solid (see posts below) and I think will work well with this group.  They are only a few weeks into filming but I know we will start to learn more soon and see some pics from the sets.  The above picture of Zachary Quinto as Spock was actually taken during the last movie.  But stand by, I think this movie is going to rock Trekkies everywhere!
