Chris Pine talks Trek!

Actor Chris Pine (the new Kirk) recently gave a great little on the spot interview with Collider.com.  They asked him a bit about the film, what he’s been up to and what it was like stepping into such an iconic role.  He offers some cool insights into the making of the film and some of his opinion of the work they did.  This guy seems real down to earth and genuine and lets hope he stays that way.  Click HERE to see the video clip.

More from JJ Abrams

More from JJ Abrams on the “Star Trek” movie.  He talks about Kevin Smith and how he saw a rough cut of the film.  And a bit about Simon Pegg along with other morsels.  Enjoy!

“STAR TREK” movie images – finally!

Well, folks we finally have some actual images from next May’s “Star Trek” film.  It’s been a long time waiting to see these, but for me at least it was worth it.  I love the futuristic, yet retro look to it all.  The cast looks great, love the uniforms and everything I’m seeing.  I’m sure certain fans might not like what they are seeing, but I thinkonce we see the entire movie we will be very, very happy!

Trek Movie Snippets

Well, more little snippets of news keep rolling in about next May’s big “Star Trek” movie.  First, with regards to the upcoming full movie trailer.  It’s looking very good that we will be seeing this next month in November.  Possible first showing up in front of the new Bond film, “Quantum of Solace” which opens on November 14th.  I think this would be a perfect place to show off a new, full Trek trailer.  Also, it seems Paramount might be trying to sign up the cast and JJ Abrams for a second film even months before the first one opens.  Good news and still shows that everyone seems to have a great deal of faith in the film.  JJ has said the movie will be roughly 2 hours in length, which would actually make it one of the longer Trek movies.  All interesting bits of news as we inch closer to May, 2009.

Ultimate Scale Trek Figures

Diamond Select & Art Asylum are starting a new line of Ultimate Scale “Star Trek” figures.  These will be 1/4 scale and about 18″ in height.  Captain Kirk is up first for late this year and Spock will be coming in early 2009.  They look very cool and will retail for about $80. each.  Preorder the Kirk one HERE now.

Streaming Free Original Trek Series Episodes

Just a reminder, CBS a few months back started streaming their remastered original “Star Trek” series episodes online for free.  This is really cool and you get to see the new enhanced effects and really great original series shows from the comfort of your computer screen.  And again – it’s all FREE (well besides having a computer and god internet connection).  Check them all out HERE.

Shatner responds to JJ

William Shatner has started a new little video web set and in one of the first posts he responds directly to the question of why he isn’t going to be in the new “Trek” movie.  He states pretty clearly that no one actually offered him a role.  But he also says that if it was only going to be a cameo he probably wouldn’t have done it.  However, he also tells JJ directly in this interview that he would still love to possibly be in another future “Trek” film.  So this should put to rest finally of why “the Shat” isn’t in the new film.  See the video below:

Bryan Fuller wants Trek on TV again

The creator of “Pushing Daises” and former writer for both DS9 and Voyager, Bryan Fuller would love to have a crack at a new “Star Trek” TV series.  Here’s some of what he had to say recently while doing press for the fall TV season…

I would love to do another ‘Star Trek’ series. One where you could go back to the spirit and color of the original ‘Star Trek,’ because somehow, it got cold over the years. I love ‘Next Generation,’ but it’s a little cooler and calmer than the ones from the ‘60s, which were so dynamic and passionate. ’Deep Space Nine’ was the best of the modern ones, because it was so emotionally complicated. ‘Enterprise’ was the most sterile of all of them, when it should have been the most fun.

‘Star Trek’ has to recreate itself. Otherwise, all the characters start to feel the same. You always have a captain, a doctor, a security officer, and you have the same arguments based on those perspectives. It starts to feel too familiar. So all those paradigms where it takes place on a starship have to be shaken up.

I love the idea of a new Trek series (of course).  Here are some of my personal ideas and thoughts…

Lots of interesting ideas and thoughts. First, if I were doing a Trek series I would set it in a very difficult era – to match the difficult times we live in now so parallel stories could be developed as they did many times on Trek.
Two possible times —
1 – The Earth-Romulan war – post Enterprise and just prior to TOS. Lots of conflict, grit, troubles, etc. Sort of BSG meets Trek – to a degree.

2 – Distant future, the Federation has been decimated by years of war with aliens (maybe the Borg, some other alien race) and now Starfleet and the Federation are trying to rebuild, explore, live again.

I’ve loved Trek from TOS and on but things on the later series got a bit too easy. Let’s get our hands dirty, make it emotional, have people explore, live, love, die, etc. Make you care for them and grab your audience. Now that would be good Trek and great TV!
