Actor Benedict Cumberbatch who is playing main villain in the next “Star Trek” film (which has now completed shooting) spent some time recently at the beach in California. The actor was working out pretty much “non-stop” to bulk up his physique for the role in the movie. Reports have been floating on the internet for some time now about the role he is playing and the need to look somewhat “super-human” in the movie. Well, what does everyone think? Did he manage to get there?
In “Space Seed,” Khan’s origins were made pretty clear (“from the northern India area … possibly a Sikh”). That line of description, plus Ricardo Montalban’s physical appearance and manner of speech, firmly established Khan as a dark-skinned Indian or at the very least Latino — NOT a skinny, pasty white British guy like Cumberbatch. This guy plays Sherlock Holmes on British TV. Why would someone who looks like that even have a name like Khan Noonian Singh??
